12 Things We're Excited For In 2016

To the left, 2015.

So, 2015 was a hell of a year, right? A real "best of times, worst of times" situation—but we made it through, baby! Now, we’re looking to the future.

We can’t be sure what 2016 has in store for us, but we are looking forward to a few things. A little optimism never hurt anyone, right? Bring it on, universe!

Below, we call out 12 things we're here for in 2016.

The Summer Olympics

Who doesn’t love a little healthy competition between nations? The Summer Olympics is the ultimate sporting event where champions are born, legends are made, and records are broken. Also, Speedos.

The Presidential Election

This is at once terrifying and exciting: Terrifying because we've all seen the Republican candidates. And exciting because, well, we’ve seen the Republican candidates!

We may actually get back-to-back Democrats in the White House. That's only happened once in the past 179 years. Register and vote, people!

New Missy Elliot Music

Run for cover, motherf*cker—Missy is back! In 2015, she gagged us all by performing with Katy Perry at Super Bowl XLIX, and dropped her new single, "WTF (Where They From)," her first solo outing in a decade.

Missy has confirmed a new album is likely to be released in 2016, and we couldn’t be happier. What the world needs now is Missy, sweet Missy.

The Ghostbusters Reboot

Reboots are hit or miss, but we’ve got high hopes for the new all-female Ghostbusters. Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon and Melissa McCarthy? Yes, please.

Sigourney Weaver, Dan Aykroyd, and Bill Murray are back, too. ANNIE F-ING POTTS is in the cast! This. Is not. A drill.

In the name of feminism, let’s make this the highest grossing film of all time!

Leap Day

As legend goes (according to Season Six, episode eight of 30 Rock,) on this day, “Leap Day William emerges from the Mariana Trench to trade candy for children’s tears." Delightful.

It’s also a day to do the things you ordinarily wouldn’t do. A day to take chances. We’re not saying you should follow the madeup traditions of an NBC sitcom, but if Festivus can become a thing, why can't this?

Obamacare Open Enrollment

One of the greatest things we as LGBT people can do to for ourselves and for our community is to be healthy and strong. If you don’t already have healthcare, you may be eligible through the Marketplace thanks to the Affordable Care Act.

Open enrollment for 2016 ends on January 21. Pick a plan, see a doctor, get tested, and visit a mental health provider. #ThanksObama

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Just kiss already.

It feels like we’ve been waiting forever to see the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel face off in this surefire blockbuster. You can bet we'll be first in line to geek out over this clash of the comic-book titans. So much testosterone! So many explosions! And Wonder Woman? It’s on.

iPhone 7

Just kidding! We JUST got a 6s Plus. When will this madness end?

Wait. Did you say it’s going to be waterproof? UGH! FINE! Just take all of our money!

Adele On Tour

Do you have disposable income? Do you need a good cry? Do you appreciate vocal prowess and classic glamour? If you answered yes to these questions, you’re probably going to see Adele on tour in 2016. You’re probably also a 32-year-old gay man.

Whether you’re one of the lucky few who snagged Adele tickets before they were gobbled up by scalper bots, or one of the wealthy few who are going to shell out $11,000 to said scalper bots... please, let us know how it was.

And tell Adele we said "Hello."

More RuPaul’s Drag Race

Are you ready for RuPaul’s big opening? What if we told you that in 2016, Ru’s coming back with TWO big openings!?! Get your mind out of the gutter, we’re talking about Drag Race Season 8 and Drag Race All Stars! Prayers answered!

This year, Logo is a biscuit, and it's gonna sop you up!

Juno Arrives At Jupiter

To quote the poet, Tori Amos, “Hey Jupiter, nothing’s been the same. So, are you gay?”

Well, this July, she’s finally going to find out, as NASA’s Juno spacecraft arrives at Jupiter. HOORAY! We are going to find out so much information about our solar system's fifth largest planet! (Our guess, Tori? totally gay.)

New Beginnings

A new year is a fresh start. Whatever shitty thing happened to you last year, whatever crummy relationship you ended, let it go. This is your year. Sure, it’s cliche, but it’s also true. You got this.

Let’s make 2016 the BEST. YEAR. EVER!!!
