On October 1, Saturday Night Live returns for its 42nd season—perhaps its gayest on record: Not only is Emmy winner Kate McKinnon back, but out comedian Chris Kelly has been promoted to head writer, and gay funnyman Julio Torres has been added to the writers' room, as well.

Some say SNL goes to the queer well too often, but when it does gay humor right, it's a thing of beauty.

"Just Friends" Booty Shorts

Two straight pals (Jason Sudeikis and Andy Samberg) are tired of being mistaken for a gay couple, so they throw on their "Just Friends" booty shorts to prove to the world they're totally straight.

The Dudleys

Dialing up and down "the gay" according to twitter reactions leaves this sitcom pilot with "Crazy Eyes" as a daughter to gay dads Woody Harrelson and Keenan Thompson. Sounds like a hit.

Ellen Page Comes Out—Sort Of

Before officially coming out,Page had a little fun with lesbian rumors back in 2008, in a skit that sees her yearning to hug a woman—with her legs.

The gay goes to 11 when Kate McKinnon drags out her Ellen impersonation and Jim Parsons plays human Christmas ornament Johnny Weir.

New Beginnings

Ben Affleck plays a counselor at an ex-gay camp tasked with turning a bunch of queer kids straight. Spoiler: he fails—miserably.

Donnie's Wedding

The nuptials of Donnie Bartalotti (Ben Affleck) and Smitty (Seth Meyers) are something less than fabulous, though their vows are rather heartfelt: "Your love has opened up parts of my heart I never knew existed. Especially the queer part."

Canteen Boy and the Scoutmaster

Inappropriate on all levels, this sketch saw SNL all-star Alec Baldwin as a lecherous scoutmaster making sexual advances on one of Adam Sandler's recurring characters, the man-child Canteen Boy.

"Dyke and Fats"

For the love of Lorne Michaels, can we bring Officers Lez Dykawitz and Chubbina Fatzarelli to the big screen? If It's Pat! can be a movie Dyke and Fats deserves its day in theaters.

Back in the mid-1980s, Terry Sweeney was SNL's first openly gay cast member.

Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell voiced Ace and Gary, a superhero team who are extremely close in an ambiguous way.

Here, they give some kids useful safety tips like never pull out a plug by its cord—always grab the male end and stick it in the hole.

The beauty of Stefon was that he didn't just mime gay stereotypes. He was a bizarre, beautiful creature from another world seemingly trapped on Planet Earth.
