Rio De Janeiro Hosts World's Largest Mass Gay Wedding: PHOTOS
In late May, a court in Brazil ruled that same-sex marriages had to be permitted in the country, paving the way for the mass gay-wedding ceremony held Sunday in downtown Rio de Janeiro, where more than 130 couples said "I do."
Brazil is the third South American country to effectively legalize same-sex marriage via a court ruling, but a final law has yet to be passed. Civil unions for gay couples have been recognized in the country for two years.
Judge Cristina Gaulia said Sunday's ceremony marked a "political victory."
