Daniel Ashley Pierce, the 20-year-old Georgia man who posted a harrowing video of his family beating him after he came out, has received more than $93,000 in donations on his GoFundMe page.
"Thank you to everyone from around America and all over the world for your support in the past several days," Pierce wrote on the fundraising page, which was reportedly established by Pierce's boyfriend. "This has been a rough time for me and I never imagined that so many people would show such overwhelming compassion and generosity."
Initially, the campaign was set at $2,000 for rent and basic living expenses, since Pierce has been kicked out of his family'shouse. As of this posting, though, it has reached $93,765.
Pierce has asked people to discontinue donations to him, and instead give money to LGBT homeless organizations like Lost-n-Found, which has been helping him plan his future. "What I need most is time to think and work through the next steps in my life," he writes.
The video of Pierce's encounter with his family has been viewed more than five million times.
