Blog-wise, this space is gonna take things further, serving up showbiz dish, buzzworthy news, hot bands, crazy trends—everything that’s on the verge of exploding (as, in “KABOOM!”) in gay culture—and pop culture—like, as soon as you’re done reading this! Expect the freshest feed about any and every freaky thing that makes your world spin spunkily.
Ummm… About John…
I come to NewNowNext and Logo high on the fumes of over ten years in gay media, most recently clocking in as Managing Editor at GENRE Magazine, which followed a gig as Editor-in-Chief of Next Magazine, New York City’s manic gay nightlife weekly. I’ve contributed to publications as varied as the Los Angeles Times, Travel & Leisure, Attitude magazine, MSNBC and Instinct.
A wee bit more about me: I’m originally from a teensy small-town in Southwest Virginia; I attended the University of Virginia. Post-college I’ve lived in New England, Los Angeles, Amsterdam and now New York City. The first concert I ever saw as a kid was Rick Springfield (he touched my hand!), and the favorite people I’ve ever interviewed include Bea Arthur, Ellen DeGeneres, Mary J. Blige and Heath Ledger (swoon!). My drink of choice tends to be a vodka/soda with a splash of cranberry.
And no, I’m not really picky about the vodka. Unless you’re buying.
But wait - Colin’s in on the blogging too! Colin thanks Logo and NewNowNext for helping him become an actual person (sort of). Blogging for Logo is Colin’s first job out of college; he went to Northwestern where he majored in journalism. He’s done that unpaid internship thing and NewNowNext is way better! And way gayer!
I was was born-and-raised in New Orleans…and I’ve known only the drunken/delicious/amazing Crescent City until college in Chicago and, now, working life in NYC.
And to blatantly copy John...The first concert I ever went to was Britney Spears. Let that tell you a great deal about me. My fav “interview” (it was more like two questions in 30 seconds) was definitely Rachael Ray. I really don’t know why I love her so much…she just does something to me.
I like vodka and sodas - I used to love tequila shots and Long Islands...but, yeah that feels like a long time ago.
And we want to hear from you! Because you hear about stuff. Send us your comments and we’ll clue each other in.
Cheers!

Yup, that's John and Colin...doing the Project Runway video blog. (John jock-ed out in honor of Tiki Barber's guest appearance, just in case you were wondering!)
Larry Hertzog, creator of the cult TV series Nowhere Man and writer/producer of 24, La Femme Nikita, Missing and more has launched a new podcast series called Drinks with Larry and Lauren. He and journalist Lauren Proctor record at various Los Angeles bars and strike up conversations with patrons about love, life and everything in-between.
The recently recorded an amazing episode with a transgender woman at the Oyster House in Studio City. It was entitled Engendered Species and dealt with the issue of gender in a very compelling, honest and relevant way.
It's definitely worth checking out.

Love the Country Edition of New, Next, Now...particularly the debut of the Dixie Chicks new single, "Not Ready to Make Nice." You go girls! We were cheering them on and mesmerized by the lyrics and imagery all at once. Bravo! Would love to see more alt. country like Ryan Adams, Lucinda Williams, Patti Griffin, Emmylou Harris, etc. Keep it up...We're watching in TENNESSEE!

Home come I never see anything about the group JASON & DEMARCO, I love their song "This is love". I've only seen it once on your channel. WHY???
Ron

Ron--
About your Jason & DeMarco question. Logo did air their video for "This Is Love" on the NewNowNext music video show. After a video premieres there, it usually moves to The Click List program, and viewers can go online to LogoOnline.com and vote on the videos they want to see. Want to see more Jason & DeMarco? Vote for them (and get your friends to vote, too)! That's how videos by artists like God-des and Ari Gold topped the Click List for weeks on end. Viewers voted! You can vote for Jason & DeMarco now. Thanks!

It is so awesome to see Out artists like Jason & Demarco and Ari Gold topping LOGO's The Click List...so important and great for our community. I recently saw Ari Gold perform at Lincoln Center during Pride week in NYC and he was INCREDIBLE. I was BLOWN AWAY....and I guess he premiered a couple new songs (which I have been waiting for!!!) from an upcoming new album and the crowd went insane...he also did his hits too that were featured on LOGO. Oh my god I cannot wait for Ari's new album...the new songs were off the hook.

I love LOGO! I'm so thankfull that Logo came into this world. I was into 80's music fully and hated mostly all of todays music, than NewNowNext came on and I found my nitch of good music of today!
I even made 2 mini discs title "New Now Next" and "more New Now Next" with 18 songs on each. I had recorded the music right off of the channel since it has a loud volume output, all I did was adjust the recording level of my md recorder to 10 db's and it sounds great!
I had bought a bunch of new artists' cd from NNN and enjoyed them alot, like Fishcerspooner, Goldfrapp, VHS Or Beta, Moby and Scissor Sisters.
I even bought the artists from the 80's with new cds today like Duran Duran, Erasure, Andy Bell, Pet Shop Boys, Human League, Heaven 17, The Cure and New Order.
Some of those 80's artists weren't on NNN but I had to check their new stuff out anyway! I love Electronic music!
I can't wait to get Scissor Sisters's new album and try out Glove Box and Tiga!

Just a little update to myself. HeHa! The md of "more New Now Next" has 20 songs not 18. I was able to fit two more great songs onto the md disc. I'm posting this cause I can't edit my previous comment to add the changes in.

I am so glad there is LOGO on my TV clicker! And the music I love to boot!
Does anyone have any info on the band SPARKS for LOGO's music? In the 80's (am I dating myself?) I LOVE LOVE LOVED that video "Cool Places" with Jane Wiedlin from the Go-Gos, not to mention the song "Eaten by the Monster of Love" from the movie Valley Girl (there I go again). I've seen the video of their new song "Dick Around" all over the web, but not on MTV or LOGO (where it should be)... someone help and get it on the air. It's so amazing and I am sick of looking at it on my little computer screen. I want to see it on my TV!!!! I want to see it on LOGO!

Colin,
I read your posts basically five times a day. You are sooo funny - not kidding. You should get a huge pay raise. Just a thought though. Anyway I am equally as pumped for the new HP movie/book (I ordered my own copy from B&N a month ago). I totally agree - the actress picked for Luna is perfect! Umbridge, on the other hand, is not quite ugly and mean-looking enough in my opinion. I'm glad to see that the new director is making it really scary; I mean who cares if stupid little kids don't like it. I can't wait to see the final scene! As for the final book, Harry dying is probs just a rumor, but if Harry does die-as like the only possible way to kill Voldie or something-that would be kinda cool. Always readin'

I'm looking for the name of a band where: girl is riding a bike down this creepy road and she has people dressed in animal suits doing bmx tricks behind her. It was a video on logo a couple of weeks ago and I missed the artist name.

Hi Neill, the name of that band is Bat for Lashes. They're pretty cool.
And many Kudos to John for all of his work on this site. Pretty spectacular, I must say, because I LOVE Logo's NewNowNext and this blog makes it so much more accesible!

John:
Was wondering if you could help me out---I work with a super-talented (and "out") recording artist named Fredrick Ford who is having quite a bit of mainstream success. His latest single spent 2 weeks at #1 on Sirius and 9 weeks on the Billboard Dance Chart, and he opened for Deborah Cox in New Orleans recently.
Fredrick's music videos have been picked up by every Gold's Gym & 24 Hour Fitness in the U.S. and are being played in every Abercrombie & Fitch, Victoria's Secret and Adidas store in North America. H&M is playing his latest single's video in every store in the world.
We have yet to get Fredrick's videos played on LOGO, however, and I was wondering if you might be able to let me know how to go about submitting them?
Congratulations on all your success and all the good work you do. Your site is phenomenal! :-)
Thanks so much for your input---I really appreciate it. Have a terrific day!
Sincerely,
Scott Edwards

Hello,
I am a member of Wicked Jezabel, the Baltimore-DC area's only all-female, all-gay party band. We played at Baltimore Pride's block party last year, as well as DC Pride's festival, and continue to play at local venues year-round. I would like to announce that on Feb 17, 2008, we were awarded the "Wammy Award" for "Best duo/group in Hard Rock" category for 2007 by the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA).
---------------------------
Quote from the Metroweekly: Published on February 21, 2008
Forget the Grammy Awards. In D.C., it's all about the Wammies, the Washington Area Music Awards (WAMA), which recognize significant career achievements by area musicians. On Feb. 17, the 22nd Annual Wammies honored the six women who comprise Wicked Jezabel. They are: Davi Anson-Dross, Pauline Anson-Dross, Ginger Starling, Mickey Dehn, Sandy Dumas and Meri Schaefer. The big-haired, all-women cover band won in the category of ''Best Hard Rock Duo/Group,'' against a handful of local bands.
''We really made some Washington history here,'' says Pauline Anson-Dross, who sings and plays guitar with the band. ''We're probably not only the first all-female band to win a Wammie, but we're the only all-lesbian band to win a Wammie in 22 years.''
Anson-Dross says in addition to ''rocking the Mid-Atlantic,'' Wicked Jezabel plans to release its first CD sometime this year. The band currently has demos and music available online. ''We're in the process of putting something together,'' Anson-Dross says.
---------------------------
I hope you find this announcement is of interest to our community. Please contact me if I can provide any additional information.
Thank you,
Mickey Dehn

MÉLANGE LAVONNE SET TO TAKE OFF IN 2008
(Palm Springs, CA) – April 2, 2008 - MÉLANGE LAVONNE, who burst on the LGBT music scene last year with her anthem/song GAY BASH will be releasing her full length CD titled “The Movement” on Tuesday, May 13, 2008.
MÉLANGE LAVONNE is an outspoken, openly lesbian hip-hop artist who has been performing to audiences across the nation. Her passionate lyrics and intense performances have stirred many across the world. Her song, "Gay Bash", delved into the death of her fictional best friend Kevin at the hands of gay bashers. A compelling music video of the song was made which made it onto LOGO, where it received frequent rotation, making it a staple on their Top Ten list called "The Click List" throughout the summer of 2007 and the year end Top Ten for their New Now Next music show.
“The Movement” establishes Lavonne’s blend of conscious and intelligent hip hop rap, taking on the foes of equality and justice. Her songs tackle issues such as gay parenting, domestic abuse, the Presidential campaigns, discrimination, global warming, internal beauty, and hip hop hypocrisy, to name a few.
Audiences may have recently seen her last month in Boston and Connecticut as part of the HomoRevolution Tour’s 2008 New England dates. She makes her Tri-State area debut on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark as part of OUT LOUD PROUD II, returns to the main stage at Long Beach Pride on May 17th in Long Beach, CA and will perform at the NYC Pride Rally at Bryant Park on June 22, 2008.
A new video, this time taking on gay parenting, is scheduled to begin production at the end of this month and is seeking donations. Please email the director with MELANGE LAVONNE in the subject at littleredpictures@yahoo.com to make a donation.
To receive a promotional copy of Melange Lavonne’s THE MOVEMENT for review purposes or to schedule an interview, please contact: Camilo Arenivar/Milo Management, milomanagement@gmail.com, 323-510-1445.
