Soap Opera Character Comes Out! Saves a Life!

"Out" in the Woods: Luke (Van Hansis, left) comes out to his bud Kevin (Karl Giralamo), and tells him he's crushing on him. And then things get tricky, on As The World Turns.

Months ago I wrote about the burgeoning gay plotline on As The World Turns, wherein in young Luke Snyder (the son of ATWT's resident royal couple, Lily and Holden--and expertly played by actor Van Hansis) was dealing with his gayness, coming out to his parents, and trying to begin adjusting to the world at large. Well, that story's been chugging along nicely and on this coming Monday's episode, you can expect more gay-flavored drama to unfold on the soap.

That's when Luke (who's with all the other cool kids hanging out at Raven Lake while there's a slasher on the loose--ahhh, you gotta love soap operas) confides to his best friend (and major crush) Kevin (played by Karl Giralamo) that he has (gulp!) feelings for him. Yes, Luke spills the beans... And things get tricky and before you know it, Kevin freaks out, and then gets accidentally walloped in the head with a canoe oar. He ends up in the lake and Luke has to fish him out! Of course, he has to revive Kevin, so it's time for some life-saving (and ratings grabbing) mouth-to-mouth resuscitation! Yes, there's gonna be some man-on-man lip action, even if it is of the paramedic-style variety.

"Ummm... He's not breathing... OK, here goes!"

"Now, does mouth-to-mouth involve tongues? I forget..."

Of course, you can expect further complications to ensue... Luke then has to get Kevin to the hospital, and Kevin wakes up to discover that Luke saved his life after he (Kevin) lashed out at him. Oy! Will the pair remain friends? How does Luke feel about Kevin now? Will Luke ever find happiness? And you know what, they better watch out for snakes in those woods. We'd hate for them to have to suck some poisonous venom out of each other--and you never know where snakes will strike!
