Dancing With Scissors

Choreographer Matthew Bourne and Richard Windsor as his Edward Scissorhands. Snip!
Tonight at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, there'll be some "cutting-edge" moves onstage (sorry...) when a balletic version of Tim Burton's 1989 classic Edward Scissorhands makes its New York stage debut. Matthew Bourne, the man who gave the world studly dancing male swans (and who made even poofy, feathered pants seem hot and sexy) with his massively popular (and turgidly homoerotic) take on Swan Lake, has re-visioned the Johnny Depp movie into a full-on musically staged dance slice-and-dice dance fest, complete with Danny Elfman's dreamy score. It's already played in London, Tokyo, San Francisco, D.C. and L.A. Expect it to cut a swathe further through the performance world in the coming year.
I'd advise taking some band-aids and Neosporin when you check it out.
