World's Most Well-Known Gay Turns 60!

Elton John, back when he wasn't quite 60 yet.
Elton John officially turned 60 this weekend, with a huge bash in NYC at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine (Get it? Saint "Elton" John, who I'm sure is most "Divine.") thrown by his husband David Furnish on Saturday night, wherein folks like Mary J. Blige, the Scissor Sisters and Tony Bennett sang while people snarfed dinner.
Then came a big, fat concert at Madison Square Garden (his record-breaking 60th show at the venue, coincidentally) on Sunday, which featured onstage apperances by the likes of Bill Clinton (who introduced him), Whoopi Goldberg, Bernie Taupin and Robin Williams. Other celebs who showed up for the birthday festivities included Donatella Versace (who wiped out on the slippery steps on her way into the party -- but she's fine!) David LaChapelle, Eve, Eric McCormack, Rosie O'Donnell, Barbara Walters, Pierce Brosnan, Little Britain's Matt Lucas, Yoko Ono, actor Michael Sheen (who played Tony Blair in The Queen), Elizabeth Hurley, k.d. lang, Liv Tyler, Zac Posen, Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne and so on...
Elton cranked out a parade of his classic hits throughout the concert, ending the show with "Empty Garden," his tribute tune to pal John Lennon, whose last concert was with Elton on the stage at Madison Square Garden back in 1974. Which is really nice. Or you can look at it this way. (Har!)
And evidently, Elton was even able to make fun of himself and not take crabby jabs at the world at large. At one point during the big birthday concert, as a blizzard of white confetti showered over the stage, Elton quipped: "I used to snort this stuff."
Then, I'm guessing that everybody got Elton John-scented candles in their gift bags. And free tickets to The Lion King. Meow.
The Sun newspaper in the UK (via Towleroad) celebrated Elton's 60th by publishing a rundown of the superstar's 60 Bitchiest Quotes. Which includes the nugget "I am the most well-known homosexual in the world."
Word.
