Joseph Gordon-Levitt: On Paparazzi & His Gay Pal

Joseph Gordon-Levitt at the premiere of The Lookout in L.A. last week. I'm hoping that arm didn't happen 'cuz of a paparazzi!
Right now over on Towleroad, Andy has a video posted (from Salon.com) that Joseph Gordon-Levitt shot when a pair of paparazzi were harrassing/shooting him here in NYC. In the clip (which is also on his own site), Gordon-Levitt (who stars this weekend in The Lookout, and who also appeared in Mysterious Skin a couple of years back) turns the tables on his photo-shooting aggressors, attempting to have a conversations with them about why they do what they do. Toward the end of the conversation, one of the photographers says he wanted a shot of Gordon-Levitt because he saw him leaving a building with a male friend, and they looked "cute" together. And the photographer basically thought (or hoped) they were boyfriends.

Click to watch the video. They sure say "a**hole" a lot.
I've met Gordon-Levitt several times. He's super-talented. And straight. And a really nice guy. And his friend with him in the video (glimpsed very briefly) is theater producer Jared Geller, who just happens to be gay. And Geller's a friend of mine. And he and Gordon-Levitt have been pals for years. (Geller has produced shows like Slava's Snowshow, as well as Kiki & Herb: Alive on Broadway, and the Rufus Wainwright/Judy Garland concert at Carnegie Hall, among lots of other cool stuff).

Super-successful Broadway producer (and friend of JGL) Jared Geller.
I heard about this incident with the paparazzi a couple of years back, via Geller and Gordon-Levitt. In fact, when I worked at GENRE Magazine, we had Geller interview Gordon-Levitt around the time Mysterious Skin came out. You can read the finished, edited interview from 2005 here. And during their interview, Gordon-Levitt actually discussed this very incident with these photographers. However, it was cut out of the final text of the interview as it was a bit tangential to the story.
Anyway... Just thought I'd shed a little light on all of this.
Now go back to whatever you were doing...
I really wanted to see Mysterious Skin. I kinda like Jospeh. He's got this cool edge to him.
