Mrs. McGreevey Does Oprah, Kept Sleeping With "Gay American" Hubby

Dina Matos McGreevey's unhappy tale; and the former First Couple of New Jersey back when they were clueless and, er, happy?

There’s no way this whole Jim McGreevey vs. Dina Matos McGreevey divorce/custody battle mess can be done nicely. This past week Mrs. McG has claimed that the former NJ Gov has nudie male art posters in his bedroom, and that that is a bad thing. And Mr. McG claimed his wife knew he was gay and married him anyway. And they both have books out about it. Urf...

Today, the NY Post says that while taping an appearance on Oprah, Dina Matos McGreevey (who’s on the show plugging her book, Silent Partner) explains that even after McGreevey made his “I am a gay American” speech and came out, the couple shared a bed for months. And weirdly, she seems put off that he wasn’t frisky in the sack anymore? Ummm... Wha?

Okay, evidently Mrs. M thought that Jim would be the one to clear out first (which might have been the cordial thing to do, right?) following the coming-out media bonanza. And granted, as she puts it, she had no place to go. Yep, break-ups are messy no matter which spouse turns gay.

Even weirder, evidently after McG finally came out to his wife, which was right before his big “gay American” press conference, he advised her to “act like Jackie Kennedy.” I’m not exactly sure what he meant by that, but her appropriate response would have been something along the lines of “Queen, please....” (And yes, the Post handles all of this in its usual classy style with the article entitled, “McG Was Bedroom Ice Queen.” I know it’s wrong, but it cracks me up.)

But that’s not all. Crackpot Post columnist Andrea Peyser—who is usually horrid in her preachy, narrow-minded take on things—does offer some comical clarity in her column about Mrs. McGreevey today. Her snarky, righteous take on all of this begins: “Dina ‘I'm a Victim’ McGreevey didn't know her husband was gay the way I don't know what those holes in rest-stop bathrooms are for.”

Whoa. How can you not be entertained by a loony rant involving gloryholes? The tone is very Mink Stole in Serial Mom. (Warning: the link has a clip with dirty language. Pussywillows, anyone?)

Moral of this story? Gay men: I know we can’t get married in most places yet, but please don’t act out by marrying women. Because you’ll just end up getting scowled at by the audience at the Oprah taping, or some strident, unpleasant Post columnist will go on an inky diatribe about you. And that’s just not cute.
