True Colors: Rosie O’Donnell - TV Mega-Star, Rock-N-Roll Drummer

The Ecstasy of St. Rosie? She's really happy to be onstage for this big gay show.

Yes, Rosie O’Donnell took to the stage at Friday night’s True Colors tour. Introduced by Cyndi, Rosie strolled out on stage about two-thirds of the way through the show, and people went crazy. “Here are my gays!” she cried happily. “I missed you homos!”

Clearly, she was relishing her reprieve from mainstream daytime talk TV. “Hey, I did the best I could,” she cracked about her year-long View gig. She made fun of Trump and Larry King, referring to them as “the bald billionaire and the human toad,” respectively, joking about how the two are weirdly obsessed with her.

She talked about her kids, including a bit about how her very girlie daughter asked her, “How come I have two mommies, and none of them have high heels?” She explained how she had offered to spend time in jail with Paris Hilton, “as her lesbian protector, nothing else.”

More Rosie dish after the jump.

Rosie talked about coming on board the True Colors tour. When everything hit the fan at The View, she said, “I got a phone call from my friend Cyndi. She told me, ‘Rosie, I saw what happened on The View. You’re f*cked. Wanna come on tour?’”

And she did! She didn’t mention Elizabeth Hasselbeck, except to say something along the lines of “She’s young; she’ll be fine.” She complimented all the performers on the True Colors show, and introduced Erasure, aptly equating their sound to being taken to “gay church.”

Of course, that wasn’t all… She came back on stage (wearing big yellow crocs!) during Cyndi Lauper's last two songs, wailing on a little drum set (with a cowbell, too) on “Shine” and “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” And she seemed to be having a blast.

The little drummer girl: Rockin' Rosie

Backstage, Rosie was nice and relaxed and friendly and all smiles. She’d even brought a date: Ross the Intern from The Tonight Show and Celebrity Fit Club. It was like some gay version of “Take a Gay Intern to Work Day," maybe?

Anyway, you can check out Rosie at further True Colors shows in Chicago, DC, New York, Dallas and Houston.

And you can watch Rosie and Ross goofing in her hotel room (I think?) in Vegas on her blog. Really.
