Video Lunch: Placebo - "Running Up That Hill"
So Placebo’s all about “the sex, the drugs and the complications,” to quote the title track from their album Meds, but they’re also all about their fans.
Today's lunchtime video, "Running Up That Hill," a cover of the '80s Kate Bush song, mostly consists of fans singing the song themselves in homemade videos. Placebo put out the request in March, they compiled a ton of clips (fans submitted over 1000), and the final product is totally cool.
The guys came together in London way back in 1994, originally calling themselves Ashtray Hearts, and they're quite the diverse group: One's gay, one's straight and one's bi. Very refreshing.
The bandmates Steve Hewitt (straight), Stefan Olsdal (gay) and Brain Molko (bi) at the Coachella Festival...and more on Placebo after the jump!
Brian Molko's become known for his glam look. Placebo's even been called "a glam Nirvana."
"Running Up That Hill" got some mainstream U.S. attention after it was featured on both The O.C. and Bones; Virgin then decided to revamp and re-release Placebo's Meds, which came out in 2006. The album featured new tracks “Running Up That Hill,” along with "Lazarus" and "UNEEDMEMORETHANINEEDU." Whoa...Instant Messenger speech?
It seems Placebo's all about second chances as well; along with Meds, Virgin also re-released their self-titled debut album in 2006.
Placebo and Virgin recently parted ways, however, and the band is still in label limbo – but they’re busy touring with Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance as part of the Projekt: Revolution tour, so the future's looking good.
Placebo's latest, Covers, is only available in the digital world. Originally it was a bonus disc from their 2003 album.
