All-Girl Bands That Start With “D”

As previously noted, “D” does not necessarily stand for dude.  This edition of all-girl bands serves up some obvious favorites and a couple of lesser-known acts.  And for once, these are all bands that are currently playing, recording and touring.  After much head scratching, I finally decided not to include the Dixie Chicks.  I hope no one’s super-disappointed by this.  I do find their anti-war stance commendable.

Departed400x265

The Departed – This San Francisco-based punk band creates traditional and awesome punk songs with names like “Scarapy” and “Detonate”.  And they look pretty darn good while doing it.  If you live in SF, check them out this Thursday at Three Parkside; I can only imagine their live show will be totally kickin’.

Dittybops440x295

The Ditty Bops – I’ve already shown much love for Abby and Amanda, including the ten reasons why they are the coolest, which you can see here.  They do occasionally have some dudes backing them up, but it’s not like they need them or anything.  They’re doing a slow-paced tour to benefit farmers around now.

Can't you just not wait to know the other two bands on the list?

Divinemaggees400x300

divine Maggees – With names like Danielle Tibedo and Cregan Montague you can’t help but be intrigued by these two folksy, bluegrassy artists.  Plus there’s a fiddle.  And they do some right nice harmonizin’.

Donnas440x293

The Donnas – You’ve been hearing about them a lot lately since we’re all so excited for their new album, Bitchin’.  I caught them once live and it was frickin’ awesome.  Props for this all-girl band who have been playing together since high school, starting out, literally, in a garage.
