Video Lunch: Mark Ronson - "Stop Me"
I think the Ronson family is so fascinating for some reason - but I'm certainly not the only one. So for today’s Video Lunch, check out London-born, New York-raised DJ/producer Mark Ronson’s biggest hit to date, “Stop Me.”
The song is a cover of The Smiths “Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before,” and Daniel Merriweather lends his talents for the new vocals. "Stop Me" is off of Mark's new album, Version, which came out in April, and the track hit Number 2 on the U.K. singles charts. Another single from the album, “Oh My God,” featured Lily Allen.
And now for the juice! I fully recommend this feature from New York Magazine about the Ronson fam (Mark is the older brother of twins Samantha and Charlotte); it covers how/why the Ronsons are such fixtures in the high-end New York social scene.
Ronson-family gossip after the jump!

So I think Mark is way attractive (so do the super models he dates), and I found this excerpt from his MySpace bio really cute, especially his use of “alluvasuddden;” it also gives a run-down of how he started out:
"i started dj'ing in '93 in downtown NY clubs, for whomever had five dollars. at some point, i got good and started to build a nice rep. around the same time, "urban music" (i borrowed that term from one of my college textbooks) got very fabulous, so alluvasuddden, it's like well-blinging. then, the fashion world decided hip-hop was zuper-cooo-el, so i milked that for a bit, dj'ing gucci parties in milan (where i got in a shouting match with charlize theron--i'm usually a very peaceful person, like jehovah's witness-peaceful)"
I wonder what the fight was about...NY Mag describes Mark as “a tall, white, and handsome B-boy with a private-school pedigree” (He went to Vassar and then to NYU), and the writer marvels at seeing Mark DJ for parties hosted by everyone from Jay-Z to Hugo Boss.
I thought this was funny too: Mark said he almost put a compliment RuPaul paid him on his business card (after dancing to Mark's music, RuPaul told him, “Boy, you been making my bottom hurt all night”), but Mark decided against it.
As far as those sisters go, Charlotte’s a successful clothing designer, and Samantha followed her big bro and took up DJ-ing, often taking his gigs when he wasn't available. But, if you’re like me, Samantha is known to you only as Lindsay Lohan’s club-buddy and rumored lesbian lover.
I love those Ronsons!

yum... mark is freakin hot!
i've been following this boy since the nikka costa days.
this track, "just", and the robbie williams cut are the best songs on the album.
as for the video... i prefer the uk version.
it's got a little more edge.
and that boy daniel needs to drop an album already!
