Video Lunch: Bright Eyes - "Hot Knives"
When it comes to today’s featured vid, I’m totally feeling the Bright Eye’s “Hot Knives,” a pick from their new double-single. I'm also liking those cool bleeding colors on the projector, but I can’t say I quite follow the actual song's lyrics.
Something about wives forgiving mistresses, mystics who make medicines from rain and thick mists of change…? But maybe it’s just all about the mood.
“Hot Knives” is the fourth track on Bright Eyes’ seventh studio album, Cassadaga, which came out in April. Supposedly the album's named after Cassadega, Fla. Conor addresses issues such as devil worship, drug use, climate changes and Hurricane Katrina – I think people would expect that from Bright Eyes, actually.
Conor (back with short hair) takes a Rolling Rock break at Bonnaroo.
More on Bright Eyes and why the gays love Conor...after the jump!
So Conor, with his newly long, flowing hair, started Bright Eyes originally as a side project. From his teen years, he was the front man for the band Commander Venus, but when they broke up in ’97 (they kept their newly formed record label, Saddle Creek), Conor turned completely to Bright Eyes.
With Saddle Creek, Conor then released Bright Eyes’ first album (not very creatively) called, A Collection of Songs Written and Recorded 1995-1997. In the same year, Saddle Creek also put out Letting Off the Happiness. Since then, Bright Eyes has produced several EPs and studio albums, including with Fever and Mirrors in 2000.
GLAAD awarded Conor with Special Recognition for his video “First Day of My Life,” from the album, I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning, which came out in 2005. The video featured gay, lesbian and straight couples all listening to music while sitting on a couch.
Apparently, If you have the Spectral Decoder, you can see hidden writing on the album cover. Cool, huh?

I adore Bright Eyes! I just bought their new cd and it rocks! Hot Knives is a great single and the vid rocks! Conor's cute too. lol. And First day of My Life is an amazing song and the video is just perfect. Simple yet beautiful.
