Video Lunch: The Killers - "For Reasons Unknown"
So The Killers are from Las Vegas? I always thought they were from England - shows how much I know, but whatevs.
The featured video for today is the fourth single from the group’s second album, Sam’s Town, which was both named after and recorded in a casino. Sam’s Town has also gone platinum in both the U.K. and the U.S.
The video definitely fits with the band’s Nevada-desert routes and has a goofy, old-western thing going on – especially when the guys start to roast a chicken with Brandon Flowers’ head. The song’s lyrics have a sad, longing-for-the-way-I-used-to-be feel, typical of Sam’s Town as a whole.
More on The Killers after the jump!
The guys pose at the NME Awards this year in London - they took home Best Video.
OK, in my defense at least, the Killers initially signed with a British label, Lizard King (they work with Island in the U.S.); they also moved from Vegas to England after the U.K. indie label heard their demo.
The Killers released their debut, Hot Fuss, in 2004, and I definitely remember that...not a day went by you didn’t hear “Somebody Told Me” on the radio many times. Very good song, though.
Brandon Flowers helped bring The Killers together after dropping out of a synth-pop band that decided to move to L.A. Upon seeing an Oasis concert, Brandon felt the new band he was formulating would need more guitar, less synth, and his hunt for mates began.
The guys of The Killers rehearsed and wrote in a 120 degree garage (serious dedication), and they came up with the band name after watching a New Order music video in which the guys played in a fictitious band called The Killers - Brandon said he wanted to live up to that fantasy band.
Along with their platinum album, The Killers have earned Grammy and VMA noms and, recently, headlined the June Glastonbury Festival – so they’re doing a good job so far.
