All Girl Bands That Start With "M" Part II

This second part of M covers Mi – Mu and includes: two bands that John Peel liked, two bands from Massachussetts, two duos, one rap group, one hardcore group, a bunch of queers and six bands that start with M.  Rock on till next week, when will be exploring all the female musical connotations of the letter N.

Mikamikojump450x300

Mika Miko – You’ve probably heard enough from me about them.  If not, read this and this.  Oh yeah, and they sing into a telephone microphone.  And I saw them last week and it was just as awesome as I thought it was going to be.

Mindofasian400x300

Mind of Asian – Hardcore, growling, unbelievably fast shredding, thrash punk from these Tokyo girls appeals to a very specific type of music lover.  But what they do, they do crazy good.  I’ll just never get sick of girls who rock so hard.

Four more marvelous M's after the jump.

Modettes450x300

The Mo-dettes – An oft-overlooked band from the late 70’s and early 80's European, female, punk era that produced Kleenex/Liliput, The Slits and The Raincoats.  It’s got that perfect indie-pop-punk flavor that I love.  Why couldn’t I have been a teenager in England back then?  I feel cheated.

Mrairplaneman450x300

Mr. Airplane Man – Blues stomp, garage rock duo from Massachusetts of all places.  I’ve always been a sucker for a duo.  Recent examples: Matt and Kim, Flight of the Conchords, Shellshag.  There’s something so amazing about creating that much sound with just two people.  I can’t help but be impressed.  Mr. Airplane Man is good and they do a lot of different things on different songs.  Sometimes it’s all tender and sometimes it feels like they’re trying to start a fire under your rear.  And sometimes maybe they just want you to dance.

Muffstachejpg400x300

Muffstache – The raunchiest queer female rappers this side of the Mississippi (Brookline, Massachusetts in fact). If they don’t gross you out, they just might turn you on.

Murmurs447x300

The Murmurs – I never particularly loved The Murmurs’ music, even though I (and every other dyke in the world) do think Leisha Haley is super cool.  After five years off music, and on TV, she’s back with a new band called Uh Huh Her (after a PJ Harvey song).  You can read a bit about them on AfterEllen.  I haven’t heard them, but being described as indie-electro pop, it sounds promising.  But anyhow, back to The Murmurs; whether you liked them or not I dare you not to find this video freaking hilarious.
