Do You Miss Azure Ray? Try Art in Manila
Art in Manila. Making grocery shopping fun again.
Remember back in the “A” edition of All-Girl Bands, when I gushed a bit about Azure Ray? Well Orenda Fink has another band that starts with “A”, Art in Manila. It’s her and Adrianne Verhoeven, formerly of The Anniversary, and their album Set The Woods on Fire comes out on Tuesday via Saddle Creek.
They do a sweet cover of Les Savy Fav’s “The Sweat Descends” and the other songs I listened to off the album sound perfect for a little emotional rollercoasting. There are some songs that are so pretty it makes you tear up a bit and then on “Our Addictions” things get slightly more upbeat, but with depressing lyrics. I was going to say it made me feel like drinking wine, when I realized that was what I said about Azure Ray. So either a lot of things put me in the mood to drink wine, or Art in Manila shares a certain moody aesthetic with Orenda’s previous project. And Art in Manila is touring with Rilo Kiley in September, so that’s a selling point if you’re just not sure yet.
