Posh Dogs Rule the Catwalk at Pet Fashion Week

Lap dogs of luxury unleashed their inner peacock at Pet Fashion Week.
As if to reinvent the phrase, "fashion faux paus," more than one thousand high-end players in the booming pet lifestyle industry converged on New York City this weekend to participate in Pet Fashion Week, an international event catering to the sophisticated pet professional. Now in its second year, the furry extravaganza presented by The Pet Elite magazine brought two days of tradeshows, industry symposia, animal runway antics, a creative styling showcase and a live art exhbition to the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea.
Some 100 exhibitors showcased cutting-edge items and luxurious versions of pet staples, such as bedding, bowls, treats, collars, harnesses, and beauty products, as well as full-fledged, four-legged ensembles. Although one cat was spotted, it appeared to be serving as a woman's scarf in this overwhelmingly canine-focused affair. Products abounded for smaller dogs, whose size advantages for modeling were on full display during Sunday's live art exhibition sponsored by the Isle of Dogs line of grooming materials.
Of course, dogs of all sizes help to generate big business as a major part of the growing $41 billion pet economy. What's more, the savvy exhibitors at Pet Fashion Week seemed to possess a deep and ecstatic appreciation for the substantial bite the pet-loving LGBT community makes in this market.
