Gravy Train!!! Comes Out About Their Love For Junior Senior, Mark McGrath and Gallagher.
I met up with the band, still all dressed in their glittery, colorful and skimpy outfits and stole about ten minutes of their time, during which we laughed a lot. They were a lot nicer and down to earth than I expected and had some surprising things to say. Read on and check back tomorrow for a review of their show with Junior Senior in New York, complete with blurry pictures and all!
AA: So what’s up with the new album? To me it seems like a lot more old school. Like 50’s or 60’s pop influenced.
Chunx: Yeah, there’s lots of 60’s girl group influence and like 70’s glam rock and 80’s roller disco. And also some adult contemporary.
AA: Like Enya?
Junx: Actually the record was originally supposed to be called “All Up Enya”.
Chunx: That was a really good one.
AA: Cool. And you guys have been touring with a lots of people that are awesome. Like Junior Senior. Is that who you’re playing with this week?
Chunx: Yeah.
AA: What are those guys like?
Chunx: Really fun and sweet. And we were really honored that they asked us because they’re like one of our favorite bands. And probably one of the only bands that we would fit with, that are bigger. Now that Le Tigre’s gone, who would ask us to open for them?
Junx: Who will have you now?
Chunx: Sadly, not many people.
The rest of the interview and a poignant black and white photo after the jump!
AA: Well, it’s cool that you guys are at a point now where you can get some exposure for younger bands and people that are breaking in. Like Mika Miko who you guys were touring with?
Hunx: They are so cool.
Everyone: We love them!
AA: They’re pretty young right?
Hunx: When we first started playing with them, they were in their teens.
AA: They’re really awesome, I’m going to try to catch them on Friday.
Chunx: Definitely go.
Hunx: You’ll love it, they’re so awesome.
AA: Who else? I’m trying to remember who else you guys have toured with.
Hunx: This band The Ssion. And VIP.
AA: Who would be like a dream band for you guys to play with?
Chunx: Honestly, Junior Senior was my dream band.
Junx: The dream dream band would be Queen.
Chunx: I wanna open for The Ark one day. They’re one of my favorite bands.
Hunx: I’d like to open for a comedian. Kathy Griffin. Or Gallagher.
AA: Carrot Top?
Everyone: No, not Carrot Top.
Junx: Murray Hill.
AA: Well, that seems possible.
Hunx: We’ve already done that though.
Junx: Oh yeah…
Chunx: It was a dream. A memory.
AA: Well what else? Do you have anything you want me to pass on to our faithful blog readers?
Chunx: Well I was just staring at this picture of Mark McGrath from Sugar Ray and I want to let it be known that I have a lot of respect for him.
AA: Okay, yeah.
Chunx: I’m not kidding. I’ve had like whole conversations about him. It doesn’t go over very well.
AA: Yeah it’s kind of surprising.
Chunx: I really do. Me and my friend concluded that he just started Sugar Ray as a ploy to buy every record that ever came out because he won on Rock N Roll Jeopardy. He knows about all the best music ever. So we were like, how could he know all that and be in a band like that and then we decided, he just did it for the money. And now he owns every record ever.
Junx: You know what? I like him more now. I would like to tell the Queerties to read books about Gertrude Stein.
AA: That’s perfect. Thanks so much guys.

I can't quite empathize with the McGrath worship, but good interview all the same.
