"Someone to Eat Cheese With" Is Salty, Crusty Fun
Gay Curmudgeons, take note! If you were a fan of Curb Your Enthusiasm, the new movie I Want Someone To Eat Cheese Withsmacks of the same comedy as the hilariously deadpan series, and was written and directed by series' favorite Jeff Garlin (you know, the large best friend), who also stars in this film. (The movie comes out in NYC on September 5th, in L.A. Sept. 14th and then pops up around the country in subsequent weeks.)
Cheese follows a few weeks in the life of James Aaron (Garlin), a heavy--ok, fat--struggling Chicago-based actor who lives with his mom. James and his friends wander through the days hanging around town, eating, engaging in witty observationaly dialogue. One fateful day James meets Beth (Sarah Silverman) over an offer of free ice cream and a "hoagie shack," and you'll have to see the film to find out what THAT means. Call it Curb Your Development or Arrested Enthusiasm, either way if you appreciate this genre of comedy you'll appreciate what feels like a two-hour episode of this kind of series.
The film is loaded with cameos by Jeff's pals including some of our favorite lesbian & gay icons. Sarah Silverman tears up the film as the romantic lead (if you could call it that), Amy Sedaris cameos as a school guidance counselor who's apparently gone off the deep end, and Gina Gershon makes a brief appearance in a great punchline towards the end of the film. Cheese is loaded with recognizable film and TV faces including Bonnie Hunt (Jerry Macguire), Dave Pasquesi (Strangers With Candy), Tim Kazurinsky (Saturday Night Live), and even Dan Castellaneta (Homer Simpson himself!).

Bonnie Hunt and Jeff Garlin: Haven't they heard of iTunes?

Sarah Silverman gives us that "who, little old me?" faux innocent thing that she does ever so well.
If you like that dry, awkward, semi-improvisational humor found in Curb, Arrested Development, and in films like Best In Show, you'll most likely appreciate I Want Someone To Eat Cheese With.
Anybody else craving some gruyere right about now?
