Video Lunch: Colton Ford - "The Way You Love Me"

I’m not really ashamed to say I...“recognize” Colton Ford from some of his...work. And I’m still trying to get past that image to listen to his music, so I’ll let you enjoy today’s featured video with minimal commentary.

Some of you may also recognize Colton from the documentary Naked Fame, which chronicles his attempts to cross over from gay porn into music.

He has this new single, so maybe he’s on his way out of porn (which would be tragic for Aftershock fans!), but this video looks pretty low-budge, no?

Yes...shed the porn-star image, Colton.

So, first and foremost, I wanted to know how Colton got into porn: Apparently he was dating porn-legend Blake Harper, and his BF called him one morning asking him to fill-in for a scene partner who wasn’t available.- well, I guess if you’re going to do porn, doing it with your boyfriend is a good way to start out. Of course, the rest is gay porn history for Colton!

But enough about that…I need to get past the porn-thing (not to mention that song title belonging to Faith Hill in my mind).

So Colton’s original aspirations always involved music. After college he joined a jazz quartet that opened for Wayland Flowers and Madame and David Brenner in Las Vegas and L.A. Later, Colton got some label attention, but faced a lot of bad luck. He signed with Virgin, but they ended up shelving his album, and later, Third Stone picked him up, but they folded, again, before Colton’s album came out.

In 2002, Chris Long from Miramax contacted Colton about documenting his attempts to cross into music after hearing some of Colton’s (musical) work.

As far as dance music goes, Colton added, “I always felt that the dance music genre was a viable arena for any artist who didn't fit the mold that the major labels want you to fit when you're looking at Top 40.”

I honestly believe that Colton Ford is one of the best undiscovered talents of 2007. He's got a tremendous voice and fills a niche in pop music/dance culture that few have done so before him, especially among male singers in his genre. He could very possibly be as major as George Michael was in back in the day (and still is)--

I was fortunate enough to be a neighbor of Colton's on Lugo Road in Palm Springs a few years back and not only is he as good looking in person as he is in his photos he also is a sensitive, nice and passionate man. He's definately the type of person you like to be around. I wish Colton all the success in the world and my 2008 bring him all the fame he's worked so hard for.

When I saw the video at work without sound, I wasn't expecting much...but once I heard it with sound, I found myself liking the song...A LOT! It's total deep house the way I like it, still don't like the video much, but the song gets a thumps up from me!
