Where's the Party? Madonna Turns 49 Tomorrow.

Hats off to Madonna in advance of her birthday!

When so many gay icons meet untimely ends, it gives us such a thrill to celebrate someone who attests that, “Up and down and all around, it’s all about survival,” here in the material world.

Who’s that girl? "Hello Junior, this is Madonna." Aka Madge, Nonnie, Maddy, and/or Mo, our most radiant and prideful of Leos turns 49 tomorrow.

Hurray! That means in twelve months the superstar with a list of nicknames almost as long as her back catalog will be eligible for AARP membership.

Notoriously one to stay ahead of the curve, Mrs. Ritchie is already looking forward to next year, when she is reportedly planning to mark her 50th birthday with a special show in New York City's Central Park. The televised event, which would follow in the dance steps of Diana Ross, but hopefully with even more dramatic natural lightning and wind gusts, would be the U.S. highlight of a world tour starting in June to promote her upcoming album, due this November.

When not collaborating with the likes of Timberlake, Mika and Pharrell Williams on her new album, this year M soaked up some good will with a single specially created for Live Earth, and she became a fierce advocate and Vanity Fair cover girl for Africa, the birth continent of her controversially adopted son, David Banda, from Malawi.

Her Madge-sty also dipped her big toe into the treacherous waters of the celluloid pool again, this time as director of her first short film, Filth and Wisdom, set to premiere at Sundance in February. Starring gypsy/punk rock band Gogol Bordello and based on her own life, it includes plot elements of a Russian immigrant, ballet school, cultural revolution, and a dominatrix.

Nyet! And to think she lived to tell.
