Video Lunch: Vanessa Carlton - "Nolita Fairytale"
Vanessa’s from Pennsylvania, but she’s a straight New York-er now. According to her lyrics from “Nolita Fairytale,” she enjoys having her gorgeous, rent-controlled flat in Manhattan. Go figure!
But I’m kidding – I love Vanessa, as well as her upcoming album, Heroes and Thieves…so check out the video for the LP’s lead single! Vanessa chills in her North-of-Little-Italy neighborhood in Manhattan – envisioning giant mushrooms and fairies (ha!) within the urban landscape.
It also seems Vanessa is over her mega-hit, “1000 Miles,” thanks to that not-so-subtle image of a cab running into her piano. I still like that song, V! (One complaint – are those people eating Pinkberry? That’s so L.A., Vanessa. Why didn’t you do Tasti-D-Lite?)

More V...after the jump!

Vanessa Carlton’s Heroes and Thieves (which comes out October 9 – check the NNN Noise Vlog to hear our discussion!) will actually come through a new label, Irving "Gotti" Lorenzo's The Inc. Records (which is a division of Universal Motown Records). Hence the, “Take away my record deal – the one I don’t need” line from “Nolita.”
Third Eye Blind front man Stephan Jenkins produced Heroes and Thieves (as he did her previous album), which Vanessa and her crew recorded in Cali. Interestingly, Stephan Jenkins is Vanessa’s ex-boyfriend – way to keep it professional! So how about we look back at that love story? Supposedly, Stephan courted Vanessa by giving her a “raccoon penis bone” necklace and a copy of JT Leroy’s novel, Sarah. Vanessa had this to say on the gift, “It immediately made me curious and comforted that he wanted to share things with me.”
Oh, and if you don’t like Vanessa’s new album…

I love the single. Sounds good. Reminds me of her first album which means I canna wait to get it!
