Wire Daisies' New Album Has Love For a "Gayboy"

Buttefly

The U.S. is finally catching on to U.K. band Wire Daisies, as the states will only see a debut release from the group later this year - while, in their home country, the band released their sophomore, eponymous album in May and even enjoyed the Number 1 spot on iTunes.

And (always a plus!) the band’s lead singer Treana Morris is openly gay (check out her interview with Afterellen.com!); Queen’s Roger Taylor discovered her talent when he saw her playing at a Cornish bar.

If you're getting interested, don't worry - there’s still plenty for us over here to enjoy right now. You can watch the video for one of the tracks, "Gayboy," after the jump, as well as a track or two on the band's MySpace. For those who wait, the U.S. album will feature some tracks from the band’s debut album, Just Another Day, including the unreleased track “Mary Jane” and the pretty fantastic “Gay Boy.”

More on Wire Daisies' new album...and the "Gayboy" video after the jump!

I'm a fan of "Gayboy"...and the gay lamb softening the hearts of all those hostile, straight animals was great...but the refrain's lyrics? Doesn't it contradict itself? Oh, well....

Listening to the Wire Daisies new album, besides being totally partial to “Gayboy,” I really love the album’s lead single, “Rocket Girl” (which you can hear on the band’s MySpace). Treana brings some authenticity to the lyrics as a lesbian, singing, “I live in a plastic world, but I don’t want to love a plastic girl,” which is pretty cool. I don't love all the lyrics, though…Treana later, lamentably, sings, “I could give you everything that you want. I would even bring an eleph...ant.”

But anyway, the song itself is really great; the rest of the album is quite ballad-heavy, and, I have to say, nothing else captured my interest the way “Rocket Girl” and “Gayboy” did.

Recently, the band has had a fun, if unconventional gig: They performed in the digital world of Second Life! The “Rocket Girl” video, in fact, is just their online performance of the track for all those loving avatars.

I hope they did an avatar crowd-surf!
