2007 Holiday Gift Guide: Live Music Musts!

The holidays are all about great music...
The end of the year and holiday season always brings out more stuff from your favorite artists. They’ve always got more to give (Face it. Performers crave your attention.), and there’s always more you can find out about your favorite singing starlet.
Live concerts DVDs always offer insight into just how good your favorite diva or heartthrob really is... So here are a few to keep you entertained while all the included parties work on new material for your consumption.
Live from France—it’s Mika! This live DVD offering serves up Mika performing his hits, "Relax, Take It Easy," "Big Girl (You Are Beautiful)," and the global chart-topping "Grace Kelly" (plus others). Shot with 10 cameras in high definition, it also features a documentary chronicling Mika's romping about the planet during his world tour. Maybe you can look for clues to the always nagging “is he or isn’t he” question, too!
More live divas, legends and lushes after the jump!
Amy Winehouse - I Told You I Was Trouble
And she keeps telling us! This live DVD may become essential for Winehouse fans, since the woozy diva’s recent performances have been dodgy at best. In this package, you get a rollicking and emotive 60-minute concert filmed at London's Sheperd's Bush Empire, but you’ll also get scads of bonus material including a 50-minute documentary chronicling her rise as one of music's most acclaimed new voices, as well as never-before-seen early performances, an interview with her dad, and other rare, behind-the-scenes glimpses of the British siren.
Melissa Etheridge: The Awakening Live
Call this one Melissa-palooza!!! This one’s a must for Etheridge fans, as it serves up her only U.S. performance of her new album, The Awakening, filmed this past September 25th. This entire captivating evening is included, which features live versions of all songs on the new album, as well as her concert at The Hard Rock Café in NYC, behind-the-scenes footage of the making of The Awakening, and five videos. Only Tammy Lynn gets to see more Melissa than that!
The Beyonce Experience – Live!
I’m guessing that this official “Beyonce Experience” doesn’t include footage of the massive tumble she took onstage earlier this year (that totally ended up on YouTube). But you can be sure it does record this machine-like diva cranking out hit-after-hit-after-hit in her take-no-prisoners fashion. She sings, she dances, she rocks hair, makeup and costumes... Ring the alarm, y’all!
Ricky Martin – Live Black & White Tour
Okay, maybe you think he’s cheesy, but Ricky does know how to get down with a spankin’ pop tune. And he’s not too bad to look at, as he just gets older and more buff. So, why not just give in and live in his “la vida loca” for spell. He bangs, he bangs...
Queen: Under Review 1980-1991 – The Freddie Mercury Story
This just-released DVD takes a look at the late, great legendary Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, though interviews with friends, music journalists and colleagues. And yep, there are amazing vintage performances, rare interviews and rarely seen photographs. A must of big-time Queen devotees!
Scissor Sisters: Hurrah – A Year of Ta-Dah!
Need some more Jake, Ana and the gang in your life? Feelin’ a bit glam deficient? Hang on, because the world’s most flamboyantly fabulous pop band is ready to spice things up for you. On this DVD you’ll get a full live concert filmed at O2 Fest in London, plus a 60-minute documentary filmed around the world that gives a unique glimpse into the crazy and colorful life of the band. (I’m thinking that’s gotta mean lots of Jake skin, right?) Plus, extras including videos for "She's My Man" and "Kiss You Off." Muah!
And finally...
Madonna: The Virgin Interviews (Unauthorized)
For the rabid Madge fan on your list, it’s a DVD of interview-after-interview with the world’s reigning pop diva. (No musical performances; just full-on chatter.) Not sure what the big “Unauthorized” bit of the title really means... But maybe Madonna slapped it on there herself to sell records? Not sure, but is there anything left that we don’t know about this pop phenomenon? Just maybe...
And one bonus CD that you really should have...
’Nuff said. Ho!
