Chris Garneau's "Bedroom Fireflies" Video Released

Out singer Chris Garneau (who our friends over at NewNowNext interviewed back when his debut album, Music For Tourists, was released) has uploaded a new, homemade video for his song "Bedroom Fireflies, Nighttime Lamp Surprise". The video was put together by Garneau and Grant Worth of Mission Fantastic and features musicians Anna Caller and Saul Simon.

It’s worlds away from the more polished looking video for his first single, "Relief"; shot on a handheld camera in Chris’ apartment, the new video more closely resembles the outtakes and behind-the-scenes footage you’d expect to see from a standard video shoot. Watching it, I kept waiting for the real music video to begin. It was almost halfway through before I realized I was watching the final product.

It’s a different approach, and it has a fun, laid back feel to it, but I wish Garneau had stuck with making a traditional video. With only the audio from the camera, it’s just about impossible to understand the lyrics and the constant cuts so everyone can change clothes are a little distracting. This seems to be one of those cases where the people involved in the making definitely had more fun than those who have to watch what they’ve created. Still, the video did make me want to hear the album version of the song (if only to understand what exactly Chris is singing about) so I guess it did its job.
