The Killers Plead, "Don't Shoot Me Santa"

If last night’s Democratic presidential debate failed to captivate completely, at least its slower moments offered an opportunity to meditate on the great cultural exports of Las Vegas, where the debate occurred. Cheap buffets, easy weddings (for some people, that is) and, of course, young rockers The Killers come to mind.
Hot off the release this week of Sawdust, their first compilation of B-sides, rarities and a few pieces of new material, Brandon Flowers and the boys plan another assault on the eardrums with a separate holiday tune called, “Don’t Shoot Me Santa.”
Yes, those could be the morbid last words of an elf after a poor performance review. But what else should be expected from the group whose “Bones” video was directed by the nightmarishly clever Tim Burton?
Merrily, the higher purpose of the “Don’t Shoot Me Santa” tune is to raise money for people who need help to fight AIDS. Like The Killers’ song, “A Great Big Sled,” from last year, “Don’t Shoot Me Santa” will benefit Bono’s (PRODUCT)RED campaign to assist women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa.
As elusive as the man from the North Pole, “Don’t Shoot Me Santa” is not yet available. It will be released for digital download on November 27, and a video will emerge on December 1 as part of World AIDS Day activities.
In the meantime, catch The Killers doing one of the things they do best: sounding British. Their cover of Joy Division’s “Shadowplay,” off the Sawdust album, excels.
