Ashlee Simpson Tells NewNowNext She Loves Her Gays! And Watch New "Outta My Head" Music Video!

Ashlee Simpson stopped by MTV to shoot an episode of TRL this week, and wasn't it sweet of her to speak with NewNowNext considering her new song basically tells the press to shut the ef up? Well, having completed her stint on Broadway in London as Chicago's Roxie Hart, Ashlee was high-spirited, super-tiny, all made-up...and had Papa Joe nearby to let everyone know when a bit of Ashlee's hair was out of place (stage mom?).
But OK, she was totally nice, and her album, Bittersweet World, is due out early next year. I'm a pretty big fan of the lead single, "Outta My Head," and the video premiered this week! Check it out after the jump...along with the rest of our (brief!) Q&A.
And as far as recent rumors go, Ashlee cleared at least one up: BF Pete-y will be coming to Christmas dinner at the Simpson household. (Remember how Papa Joe "banned" Pete because Pete enjoys the occasional guy-on-guy make-out sesh? And no joke, Papa Joe is scary in real life. Scary!)

Here's the video for "Outta My Head;" Ashlee said her favorite artist, Salvador Dali, inspired the concept (I think a cell phone ad deal was in the creative pool as well!)...
Oh, Ashlee is just so campy...no wonder she made a great Roxie Hart. And she looks totally hot dancing on the Rubik's Cube, right? Ashlee said her favorite part of filming was flying around in a straight jacket. I believe that; that looks totally fun. Later that day, Ashlee revealed to MTV she'll be calling her new album Bittersweet World.
And now for the interview!
Thanks for talking with me! You totally already have the gay cred 'cause of Chicago.
Yay! (throws her hands in the air)Are you missing anything about Broadway right now?
I definitely want to do it again. Someday. But I’m stoked to have the record and start touring. So that’s where my mind is right now, but I definitely want to do theater again.Any dream shows for you? Or dream roles?
Um. Oh, gosh! I mean, getting to play Roxie Hart was pretty fantastic ‘cause she’s just so catty - it’s great. I have a song on my record that’s a little bit influenced by that. But I don’t know, I’d have to think about it. I’ve always loved Les Mis.I feel like "Outta My Head" and "Invisible" are about being attacked for something you shouldn't be attacked for. Do you think that could appeal to a gay audience?
"Outta My Head" is definitely a song about having too many voices and opinions - something that everyone has one day...get home from work - Ah! He said, she said, you know? Or whatever that may be.It’s definitely not directed toward one thing. With like “Invisible,” I’m definitely the underdog, and I’m totally with fine that. I actually wrote that song for my parents when they were complaining about something.
(P.S. Papa Joe walks in. Eek!)
Were you exposed to gay culture growing up?
Yes! I grew up dancing! It’s something I’ve always been around - always, you know, accepted and loved...and all of my best friends! (leans over and laughs)Any important life lessons the gays have given you?
Always! I feel like I shouldn’t go out without their help on my clothes. (laughs)(P.P.S. Most everyone else in the room was gay. We were at MTV.)
"Outta My Head" is great and sounds totally '80s. Are you a fan of '80s music?
I love the ‘80s! I love the Missing Persons, Blondie, Debbie Harry, The Pretenders...What do you think of '80s trends? Any you'd like to bring back?
I think they kind of are coming back, and I think there are some that should not come back. The poofy side wings should not come back.
And so ended my Ashlee Simpson meeting. But wanna see a ridiculous picture of me and Ashlee, pre-interview? I will treasure it for-eva!

How much did Ashlee pay you for this glowing blog post? And since when did Ashlee have "gays"?
