Never turn a back to love: The Bird and the Bee.

It used to be that Xmas, spelled that way here so as not to offend the non-believers, provided the only viable season for holiday music. The Halloween hoopla, after all, is quite short by comparison, and Labor Day anthems tend to invite government wire-tapping in free market America.

Now it looks like Los Angeles-based indie poppers, The Bird and the Bee, want to extend the idea of holiday music to Valentine’s Day. Today, they are releasing a special, four-song EP called, One Too Many Hearts, and it’s an excellent alternative to the smooth crooning of Luther Vandross. But may he rest in peace.

Find what's to love about The Bird and the Bee after the jump!

On One Too Many Hearts, Singer Inara George and multi-instrumentalist/producer Greg Kurstin flap the wings of their jazzy-electro sound and fly across the peaks and valleys of romance in tracks like "Birthday" and "The Last Day of Our Love." With the help of Gus Seyffert, George sings a 1920s duet, "Tonight You Belong to Me," that was performed by Bernadette Peters and Steve Martin in the 1979 film, The Jerk.

If you want to learn more about The Bird and the Bee, that is, in a music sense, check out their self-titled debut album, a ball of delighful sunshine that broke them into acclaim last year as they toured with Sia, Lily Allen and Rilo Kiley.

Or, you may already possess intimate knowldge about The Bird and the Bee based on the popular remixes of their song, "Fucking Boyfriend."

Let's hope the grrl gets what she wants tonight. Happy Valentine's Day!
