Underdog Alert: Beagle on Track for Westminster Triumph

Prim contestant grimly resigned to beagle zeitgeist.

True to his moniker, a dog called Uno could become the first beagle ever to win Best in Show at the fancy-schmancy Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, being held today and tomorrow at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. With the official - and kind of kinky - name of K-Run's Park Me in First, Uno is competing against more than 2,600 other dogs representing 169 breeds.

Nearly three years old and 15 inches tall, Uno won Best of Breed at Westminster today, and is expected to dominate the hound competition tonight. The beagle, a decidedly pedestrian pooch, has never received Best in Show honors, which have been awarded 100 times at Westminster.
