Daily Buzz Bits: Clothing Lines for Everyone; More Natalie Portman!
The latest from Simian Mobile Disco, the duo behind “Hustler” - you've seen that video, right? - is an instrumental track for the floors called "Clock." - Pitchfork
Heidi Montag has an anti-high-fashion, anti-Lauren Conrad line of clothes out … somehow ... and reminds everyone, "When we were in school, I was the designer, and [Lauren] was in, like, product development." - USmagazine
But this one, I could get in to: Whitney Port’s new party line, which I'm sure will be great, is called Eve & A. - PopCrunch
And finally, Robin Antin's show for her lingerie line – complete with my loves The Pussycat Dolls – left P. Diddy ... flustered? - Page Six
For the upcoming New York, I Love You, Natalie Portman was on set in Brooklyn. Jeez - talk about ridiculously good-looking. - PopSugar
Gisele Bundchen and LeBron James posed for Vogue’s Shape Issue - and Gisele has odd comments, if you ask me. - Page Six
And to think I was making fun of a Tila Tequia spin-off! Paris Hilton's My New BFF is real! - Dlisted
Today marks the opening of
Funny Games, writer-director Michael Haneke’s English-language
remake of his own 1997 German-language film. I’d never seen
the original, and I was quite hesitant about checking out the updated
version — as much as I love horror movies, I’m really not into overly
explicit violence and watching people suffer. Given that, going
to watch a movie about a bourgeois family brutalized as a pair of psychopaths
keep them captive in their summer home is something on my "to do"
list that falls ... oh, somewhere between “scrub the floor” and “punch
yourself in the face.” Earlier this week, though, I caught a
screening. The “You really need to see it” urgings I received from
a few trusted sources got me thinking about it, but in the end what
got me to the theater was the fact that Funny Games stars
Naomi Watts.
This week Marc and Lee begin by geeking out over the new Justice League animated movie (which boasts one of the best voice casts evah), which leads to a discussion of some of the worst-cast projects of all time. Needless to say, it's a fun chat.
The fellas also talk Lost, Torchwood and It's Alive!, and toss in another Mystery Geek Challenge, to boot. Check it out!
Madonna's eleventh album, Hard Candy, is due April 29, and it's all "about the juxtaposition of tough and sweetness," according to Madge's publicist. More like the juxtaposition of a pop legend and sh*tty production! Is it just me? I like the wrestler belt thing, but what's with the super-cheesy font? And the dragged-in background? It just looks so low-budget ... I know I've been saying that about every pop album cover lately ... but it's true!
BTW, today I read Geffen revised Ashlee Simpson's upcoming Bittersweet World album and its '80s cheese-fest of a cover due to massive negative feedback. Aw ... now I kind of miss the first one. OK, not really - and I wish more labels would respond to the voice of the people!
More unfortunate pop album covers after the jump...
Rihanna's New "Take a Bow" Single - What Do We Think?
Because Ryan Seacrest gets all the best premieres - wasn't he the first to bestow Heidi Montag's "Higher" on the world? - this morning On Air in L.A. premieredRihanna's new song "Take a Bow." (Follow that link to hear it.) I didn't know this was coming; it's not on Good Girl Gone Bad...
I enjoy the line, "That was quite a show / Very entertaining," but the song is nothin' special. Also, Leona Lewis has a similar-sounding track with the same name. Is this Ri-Ri's next big thing? If you ask me, the fantastic "Don't Stop the Music" never got the label promotion it deserved, so I'm mad they're just moving on.
Although Janet Jackson
is suffering from the flu this week (get well soon, Janet!), she has to feel pretty
dang good about her rise back to the top of the pop class. Yep, Janet
Jackson is No. 1 again! Jackson's new album, Discipline,
hit the shelves late last month and debuted at Billboard's top spot. Will it stay there? Who knows,
maybe not, but what a nice turn of events for Jackson.
Though the reviews have been rather mixed, there is
no question, based on the record sales alone, that the album holds some
quality tracks, and the ones that have gotten airplay so far have
been well received. Obviously, she has very loyal fans, as well, but
she's always had those fans, and that fact alone didn't drive her last two releases to the top of the charts.
Those two, Damita Jo and 20 Y.O., debuted
at Billboard No. 2 but slid very quickly in the following weeks. This time
around, the label pre-released several tracks. So, I'm going to give
the album tracks some credit here.
Sean Penn reportedly took matters into his own hands (and lips) when shooting a disco birthday party scene for Gus van Sant's Harvey Milk biopic.
Performer Mark Martinez (aka Flava), who plays disco legend Sylvester in the scene, spoke to E! about his time on the shoot, including an impromptu kiss between him and the star:
Barbara Walters Asks Kim Kardashian, Why Are You Famous?
It's a legitimate question, but we all know Kim's never going to say why on TV. It's funny, though, to see Kim squirm just a little ... even better to hear Barbara recall knowing Kim as a child.
Since Kim didn't answer the question: She's famous because her father is Robert Kardashian, one of OJ's lawyers - remember when she showed up to the Nicole Brown Foundation Gala? - but mostly she was friends with Paris Hilton, is pretty and has a sex tape with Brandy's brother. ...I know. But why do I kind of like her?
