Daily Buzz Bits: Mariah Carey's an ATM And Henry Cavill's Still Hot
Of course Bobby Trendy was welcome at Tori Spelling’s book signing. He should have worn this outfit to Britney’s all-night vigil. - Gawker
MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden and Of Montreal’s Kevin Barnes are collaborating for something called Blikk Fang, which already has a song called ... "Pleasant (something)." – Pitchfork
Nothing like a good nude photo scandal! First Audrina from The Hills, then Kristin Davis (possibly) from Sex and the City, and now – not really a scandal for this one – Amy Winehouse for breast cancer awareness. – Radar
Mariah Carey says she sometimes feels like an ATM in a wig. I certainly don't feel sorry, but that’s kind of brilliant. – Just Jared
Damn, could The Tudors' Henry Cavill be the hottest guy ever? He was even hot as a youngin’ in that Count of Monte Cristo movie. - Towleroad
The American Idol
producers thought last week’s show went so well, they might as well do
an “encore night” of Beatles songs. I guarantee you
they regret their decision today. Last night, most of the contestants chose to pass on some of the more well-known
Beatles songs, and very few performances stuck out. Luckily,
for Kristy Lee Cook though, no one was completely dreadful
this week, either. Amanda Overmyer
finally got a chance to open the show last night, and I thought she
looked great. Thank goodness they stopped overdoing it with her style.
As far as her sound, well,
it was the same-old, same-old, and I think her time might be running
out unless she can show us something new next week.
Kristy Lee Cook was
as boring as usual. She is so out of her league in this competition,
it’s ridiculous. Sadly, my favorite lady, Brooke White,
was also fairly bland. She sang “Here Comes the Sun,” and
when I say that’s what she sang, I’m being literal. Those
were virtually the only lyrics she used in the entire performance.
It was repetitive and awkward. She was totally out of her element,
and I was totally disappointed. I’m just going to forget about
that performance and focus back on “Let It Be” and “Love Is a Battlefield.”
It's the beginning of The End. The end of Season 5 of The L Word, that is. And in this second-to-last episode, a lot of groundwork is laid to get us prepped for what is sure to be the shocking conclusion of the fifth season next week on Showtime.
Luckily, groundwork isn't the only thing getting laid in this episode. Bette and Jodi are splitsville, but that doesn't stop them from getting physical, and Jenny and Niki's breathtaking tryst from last week is relived in high-def when their pilfered home video resurfaces once again.
Those are just a few of the topics we discuss this week on WGN, along with pressing issues such as gun safety, pay rates for actors with speaking roles on television shows, and whether or not telling a woman "I really hope you bleed soon" is (1) honest; (2) grounds for divorce; or (3) simply an invitation for a satisfying slap of the face.
NewNowNext NOISE Interviews The B-52s - Plus Hear Full Funplex Album!
They're the World's Greatest Party Band ... they're "lovin' in the Year 3000" ... they're hot-pink! Yes, all of those things describe The B-52s, and along with this special NewNowNext NOISE interview with members Kate Pierson and Fred Schneider, LOGOonline has the full Funplex album stream. It's a B-52s love-fest!
We snagged Kate and Fred for a quick second to discuss their new tracks and The B-52s' overall gay-ness.
From Outsports comes more details about the party rugby star Ben Cohen is throwing to celebrate his many gay fans. Tickets for BENediction are on sale for the May 28th event in London, and can be purchased on BEN-COHEN.COM with proceeds going to help support Orchid Male Cancer research and Northamptonshire and Warwickshire Air Ambulance.
Last night during Dancing With the Stars, the new trailer for Mamma Mia! premiered. The teaser trailer was pretty good, but the full-length one? My dancing shoes are already on!
The stage musical is ridiculous, but also ridiculously enjoyable, and it looks like the movie will fit that same groove. As if the ABBA soundtrack (22 songs!) weren't enough — and, really, what's better than ABBA? — we get Meryl Streep doing pratfalls in her overalls. That alone is worth the ticket price.
And that's all I needed. I was getting so upset with terrible album covers lately, but Miss Mariah Carey turned it out for me. This cover doesn't even look expensive, you record labels; it just actually kind of looks good. E=MC2 comes out April 15 via Island and features the single you've probs heard by now "Touch My Body," in addition to one called "Migrate," which I'm not feeling as much.
So yeah, Mariah and Photoshop are old friends, but I think this cover looks fierce ... or do you think it's no better than the albums I've been complaining about?
The other night TBS ran one of those "funniest commercials" specials (hosted by Kathy Griffin, no less) and one of the ads caught our eye, as it starred a pre-fame T.R. Knight as a man whose dismay that his girlfriend and her dog are taking over his apartment can be soothed only by the sweet, sweet nectar of Diet Dr. Pepper.
Of course, being the amateur semioticians that we are, we dug for any subtext that we could find in the ad that would hint that the actor would eventually come out as the biggest gay-type-person on television*.
