Madonna Hard Candy Cover - It'll Kick Your Ass!
Madonna's eleventh album, Hard Candy, is due April 29, and it's all "about the juxtaposition of tough and sweetness," according to Madge's publicist. More like the juxtaposition of a pop legend and sh*tty production! Is it just me? I like the wrestler belt thing, but what's with the super-cheesy font? And the dragged-in background? It just looks so low-budget ... I know I've been saying that about every pop album cover lately ... but it's true!
BTW, today I read Geffen revised Ashlee Simpson's upcoming Bittersweet World album and its '80s cheese-fest of a cover due to massive negative feedback. Aw ... now I kind of miss the first one. OK, not really - and I wish more labels would respond to the voice of the people!
More unfortunate pop album covers after the jump...
Oh, and I didn't even mention Madonna's single cover for "4 Minutes," but that didn't work me up since it's not like it's the cover for the whole album or anything! ...
These other two covers make me sad, because I actually like both of these albums...
Serves me right for thinking they were going to improve upon the awful European cover: Cascada's sophomore U.S. release, Perfect Day, looks like someone made it on the plane ride over! Just no to the rays of sunshine, guys!
And then there's this number that I'm sure we all remember...
But I've probably whined about the disaster that was Britney Spears' Blackout cover enough at this point. And yes, Britney herself is eff-ing everything up in her career, but she'd never have anything to do with the cover art anyway! So what's the excuse? Was she that low on Jive's priorities list at that point?
But I guess Britney and Blackout were never about good taste - and I love them anyway.
ooh, i love the updated ashlee simpson cover!
and i totally agree with you about the hard candy cover - YUCK!

I agree that this lo-fi cover stuff is bad but with record companies not giving out money like they used to, I'd rather the money be spent on making the best music and not the cover (which shows up as a less than an inch picture on my old iPod).

I thinks its intentional. I mean come on this bitch does the most artistic high fashion photoshoots

Madonna is so played out it isn't funny anymore. She needs to pay Goldfrapp whatever they want to get her next album decently produced. Confessions was fun but this HArd Candy shit looks/sounds like a complete disaster. This cover is so uninspired as well...she might as well as used a still from her HUman Nature photoshoot.

You will have to rethink the thought that the album will be a "complete disaster"! The initial reviews on the cd have been pretty damn good...Madonna is still the shit!

Well, the 3 tracks I've heard off this CD "4 minutes" "And the Beat Goes On" and "Candy Shop" are shitious IMO, I will probably be skipping this Madge reinvention, and the cover is cheap and horrid! she's capable of so much better than this, very dissapointed!

When I saw the Madonna cover I was convinced it was a fake. I mean, doesn't that shit have to cross a lot of eyes before it gets approved? It's Warner Brothers for God sakes! Not some low budget rap record made in Oakland. It's completely awful and yes, the background is sooo dropped in. What happened to a little make up? Her lips look like a dead lady. I love Madonna and will totally download a pirated copy. I'm not paying for that shit though. She has the money to make it look like it was dripping in gold and she gives us this? Ha! Her age is getting the best of her. Poor thing.

One the the worst album of her career. It's just poor. I tried very hard to like a single track and it's impossible. Crap sound. No hook. A disaster. I think she's over now and this album is a proof. Who wants to buy that ? Young kids with no musical taste and education ?

I cant believe Madonna released Hard Candy. She always goes for lesser known, very talented producers, and now she is using the same producers as Gwen Stefani? Im sad that this is what Madonna is feeding us. She is much better than this. Now she sounds like everyone else on pop radio. Poor Madge.

All you bitties need to stop hatin'! Yeah, I'm young and guess what I like the new album. It isn't perfect, but there are some great tracks if you bothered to listen and weren't just turned off because the sounds were too loud for your hearing aides. And I'd hardly call Nile Rodgers who produced much of her early work, a lesser known producer. Yeah I'm talking trash but you're messin' with Madge!

No we're just giving our honest opinions on her music. Just as you say you like it we say we don't. Can't we have a little diversity here? Just because we say we don't like it doesn't mean we're hatin' on her. Her new music is cheesy and awful at best. I will give her a few points for "Beat Goes on" and "Voices," and "Miles Away." The rest of it is disposable and no one will remember it in a couple of years.

sanders, I was KIDDING! I don't actually say things like "All you bitties need to stop hatin'" I just thought it was funny that all the older people were saying "I'm older and I didn't like this album."
That being said, I still don't think the album is "awful," the Pharrell tracks are brilliantly produced. It's just different. A lot of people don't like Pharrell or Timbaland's work so I'm not surprised.
