Pete Wentz NewNowNext Interview: Fall Out Boy DVD and Fitting In Heels?

OK, the heels part only because I asked... I can't forget Pete was at the TRL studios yesterday to promote Fall Out Boy's new CD/DVD called ****, which comes out today. The package features all of the band's music videos as well as concert footage from its live show in Phoenix.
But we have major gay crushes on Pete Wentz over at LOGOonline - I certainly know I do - so I had to digress a little: During our talk, Pete addressed that recent I-wear-Jessica-Simpson's-shoes quotation, as well as performing at gay venues. You don't want to miss that, do you?
I'm so happy to talk to you! It's been too long since you've done some gay press.
I know ... It's been a while.
So the new concert DVD - I know there's some behind-the-scenes footage. Any totally crazy moments on there?
Nothing that crazy 'cause we don't go that insane, I guess. We have cameras around us so much, that you know, Hey, I probably just shouldn't whip my ass out right now. But, yeah, there are moments on there that are pretty wild. ... We made a slip-and-slide one day; that was fun.

And you guys covered "Beat It" for the concert, right? Are you a big Michael Jackson fan?
Yeah, I and the band are huge Michael Jackson fans, so we were really excited to cover it. And it's kind of one of those songs that you're not supposed to cover as a band, you know?
And I feel like we did our own take, and our friend John Mayer was like, Yeah, yeah, I'll play guitar on it. And we're like, Are you serious? It's always fun when you can do a collaboration - especially with someone who's sort of ... proficient at what they do.
I think I read you said Michael Jackson was a dream celebrity for you to meet. Did you ever end up meeting him?
I did say that he was a dream one to meet a few years ago. He's a great guy. Dream accomplished.
What did you guys talk about?
I think people are like, Did you talk about this gossip or that gossip? I'm like, No. It was kind of more ... airy conversations that don't ever finish. It was just a conversation about life - what the world is like from our perspective. And it's kind of an ongoing one, like, To be continued. We'll talk about it next time.
So I heard your cover on friendsorenemies.com. What do you think of these new ways of distributing music ... like R.E.M. putting its album on Facebook?
I think it's an interesting time for music, because everyone thinks they have the answer to everything. And the truth is, none of us do. So you can just try experiments, and sometimes they're a success and sometimes they're just a success for you. Like with Radiohead, that's a huge success for Radiohead, but I don't know that 90 percent of bands can do that, you know? You have to be in perfect positions.
But I think people should be fostering new ideas and trying new things, and so we try to dip our foot in that pool a little bit.
Any new ideas for mediums you'd like Fall Out Boy to use?
Well, we tried to go on Planet Antarctica, but that did not go well. That was basically the medium...
I saw you just did the Kid's Choice Awards and gave American Idol Best Reality Show. Do you watch it at all?
I do a little bit. I only watch American Idol during the first two weeks when it's just train wrecks at the auditions. But I listened to a song that the kid - David? [Archuleta] - did, and the song was fantastic; the kid's voice is great.
When you presented, you and Ashlee made a joke - or maybe this was written for you - about both of you using eye-liner. But what I want to know is if you both straighten your hair together...
We do not. Well, sometimes we'll use the same hair stylist. ... Well, no, actually we do. We don't get it straightened together, but we'll use the straightening iron right after each other - like, Leave it on.
I'm a little bit lazier than her, so she does it a little more often than I do. You can tell! When we're standing next to each other, you can see, Who's put together and who's not?
Ah, OK. I guess I had an image of you both looking in the mirror together straightening your hair.
Well, we only have one hair straightener, so we have to switch off.
So you're big into fashion? Which designers are you into lately?
I'm into Galliano, Dior's always awesome for men cause they take risks other lines don't take as much. As far as street wear, Visvim, Billionaire Boys Club, Bathing Ape. ... Shows? I watch Project Runway; I think it's great.
Oh! Did you watch this season?
I did. I didn't actually get to see the last episode, but I met Christian and he's really nice. He's who we wanted to win - me, my band, my girlfriend - we were like, I hope he wins! He had the best personality, but his stuff also looked insane.
Yeah. He's much more nice and normal in person, though, right?
I think they edit those shows so people come off a certain way, 'cause when I met him he was really nice and laid-back too. He was like, I'll design for you guys - whatever you want. And I was like, F*ck it man, sure.
OK, so do you really walk around in Jessica Simpson's shoes?
It's just that there is no sense of humor whatsoever when you're doing red carpet. They're like, 'What do you think about Jessica's line?' And I say, 'Yeah! I dance around in her heels,' or whatever, 'cause I was just joking around. And there was just like, Pete Dances In Jessica's Shoes! ... I don't even really care.
Trust me, you couldn't get my feet into women's shoes, and I'm not sure I would have the greatest walk in women's heels. Yeah, it's still funny; I don't care.
So Christian might have a better runway walk than you?
Yeah, he could pull it off.
What do you think of Pop Fiction? Or what would you want to do with it?
They asked me to do one where I was bald - and this whole time [grabs his hair] this all was a wig. We haven't gotten around to doing it, and obviously I've put that idea out there, so we'll probably have to pick something else now.
But I think it's a funny idea, it's always funny kind of ... messing with people who are messing with you.
Has Fall Out Boy done gay venues? Like G-A-Y?
We have done it. But we played it before it became G-A-Y - like every night it turned into G-A-Y. So we played it as a Fall Out Boy show.
We play a lot of venues that turn into gay clubs. So... listen: For the right situation, we'd probably play just about anywhere. If some gay club was like ... whatever - I would do it. If it was the right situation. ... I mean, our show is probably pretty homo-erotic, we wouldn't have to change up that much.
And now, for old times' sake, check out my favorite Fall Out Boy video, "This Ain't a Scene" ...
