Cynthia Nixon: I'm Not Getting Married. But I'd Like To!

Cynthia Nixon and Christine Marinoni: Not married or engaged... Yet!!!
So, remember a month or two ago with the press was abuzz that Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon and her partner, Christine Marinoni, were making plans for their wedding this fall? Lies, all lies!!!!
Here’s the deal: The pair are interested in getting hitched (as was reported today...) In fact, Nixon is kind of eager to wed Marinoni (moreso than she’s been with the males in her life apparently). It’s just that it ain’t legal. Here in New York where she lives. Yet.
I attended the Sex and the City press junket recently and you can read the conversation I had with Nixon about it after the jump!

"Yo, Cyn! When's the wedding???"
So I says to her: "There’s a lot of wedding planning in this movie [for Carrie and Mr. Big's wedding, just fyi], and I read that you’re planning your own wedding?"
I’m not. It’s not true.
Well, I was going to ask what kind of wedding lessons have you learned from this film?
Right! [laughs] I mean, I have to say we actually can’t get married. If we could get married I think we would get married.
Then a reporter at the press table from Toronto chimes in: "COME TO CANADA!"
Yeah, but it would be nice to get married where we live [in New York]. So, we’re not. I don’t know how the rumor got started. The only thing I can think of is that I spoke at a Garden State Equity event and I gave a speech all about same-sex marriage, and I talked about wanting to marry my girlfriend and not being able to, so maybe that was it. I don’t know where all the press talk about Vermont came from, or the fall foliage references, but… There you go!
And then, just for you New Yorkers, here’s a good quote from Nixon about the state of life in NYC. Bottom line: It’s getting too expensive and no one can afford to live here. And is Sex and the City to blame?
The world of NYC seen in the early days of Sex and the City has changed. Did the show contribute to upping the stakes of NYC glamour?
Yeah, I mean I think you can attribute a certain amount to our show. And then we’re also just chronicling what’s happening out there. I really worry about New York. I went to Venice a few years ago, but you learn that the people who work in Venice, none of them live there. They all live on that other island, you know? And I feel like that’s what’s happening with Manhattan.
Manhattan is becoming so international, it’s becoming a playground... Actually, it’s been a playground for the rich who’ve lived here for awhile, but now it’s not even that. It’s like an international playground and there’s less and less of a neighborhood and local feeling that’s possible.
Thanks for pricing us all out of Manhattan, Ladies!!!!!
