What did The New York Times think of the Sexy and The City movie? Umm – didn't care for it: mostly "vulgar, shrill, deeply shallow," actually. But out writer-director Michael Patrick King is still "one of the guiding lights and bright wits of the original series." – NY Times

Growing up I went to a myriad of high schools: West Beverly, Bayside and Sunnydale High, just to name a few. I know what you’re thinking: “Reese, were you some sort of teenage derelict with a long list of academic expulsions or were you some military brat moving from town to town, always the mid-year new girl?”
Of course not — the answer is much simpler than that. I am merely a loyal viewer to any series that depicts the trying times of high school students. Watching these shows week to week was like graduating with degrees from all over the country. (Well, most high school premised shows are set in California so at the very least, lot of degrees from California.)

Ma'am, who is this Queen of Disco? Yes, it's Donna Summer, and she just released her first album in 17 years called Crayons, which features tracks such as "The Queen Is Back" and "Bring Down The Reign"; she knows who she is.
I love how she doesn't take off her sunglasses, even during her follow-up, indoor interview. I also get the impression she doesn't give a sh*t - and I kind of love it. She doesn't have to! She's about to turn 60, y'all, and she's done all this!
You can watch Donna's interview after the jump, as well as her performing classics "Hot Stuff" and "Hard for The Money."

Sorry this is a late one, guys: the Memorial Day weekend threw us off! But we're making it up to you with an ultra-fab edition of Suck It Up.
Last week's Step It Up & Dance was all about Rihanna's "Umbrella" ella, ella, ay, ay... and few people know this number better than one, Britney Houston! The Rent star turned New York club stage staple turned Internet phenom stopped by our offices to chat about her life as a dancer, her take on the Bravo show and her hilarious - and amazingly well-done - recreations of music videos from the all pop mega-stars.
And after the jump, check out Britney's connect with - oh, yes - Elizabeth Berkeley ... and pictures from some upcoming projects, courtesy of Miss Houston herself!

This week on Homophonic, Alex is joined on his comfy couch by Derek Nicoletto, the out lead singer of the band Telling on Trixie.
Twelve short months after their first release, Trixie has amassed thousands of fans, two widely-screened videos (featuring two reality competition fan-faves), and dozens of spots on TV for their music. Just a scant few hours before hopping a plane to the band's next big gig, lead singer Derek takes time out to look back on an amazing year in music.
Derek also treats us to a Homophonic Exclusive: a behind-the-scenes commentary of the band's most recent video, "Orion's Light".

Katy Perry's first single from upcoming album One of The Boys - called "Ur So Gay," which you can watch after the jump - earned her a shout-out from Madonna herself. Starting at the top is rough! Katy and I talked about getting love from the queen - and love from the gays - during her video interview with NewNowNext.
The video for "I Kissed a Girl," all about stroking kitties and pillow-fights, is certainly cheeky enough for Katy's lyrics (although she told me this song is not based on actual events...). This isn't my favorite Katy song, but the backing is stompy fun ... and I imagine straight men would appreciate this video concept on an even greater level than I do.

Take a look at these women.
OK. Now please take a look at the title of their new film: He’s Just Not That Into You. Um, hello, disconnect. Ah, men – they’re a conundrum we here at AfterEllen.com are only too happy to leave to our more heterosexually-inclined sisters.
The first trailer for the advice-book-turned-movie by the same name was released this week. While the trailer doesn’t give us much of a plot, it does give us a glimpse of the enormous, star-studded ensemble cast including its five leading ladies: Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly, Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson and Ginnifer Goodwin. Oh, yeah, there are some fellas you might recognize too, like Ben Affleck, Justin Long, Kevin Connolly, and Bradley Cooper.

I loved Culture Vulture Jai Rodriguez when he was on Queer Eye, and I always knew he had done Broadway - Rent, The Producers - but I never really thought he'd take on the recording artist thing. What happened to Groomer Has It? That's a full-time job!
Yes, Jai can definitely sing - in fact, if I closed my eyes, I would swear this was Clay Aiken; their album titles are even really similar ... queen fight! - but this is just ... OK, how long can you watch it without at least smiling? Test yourself. I went 10 seconds...
Last week, John Polly spoke with the unbelievably brilliant actress and total gay hero Julianne Moore for her upcoming film, based on the tragic true story of the ultra-wealthy Baekeland family. To quote J.P. who selected Savage Grace for his Summer Hot Picks:
It’s a f*cked-up story of a mother (Moore), her gay son, their lovers, a freaky (to put it mildly) Oedipal relationship, murder and crazy-rich Americans jet-setting and humping around Europe in the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s.
The movie is made by Tom Kalin (remember the gay indie Swoon?), and it’s a twisted, gorgeous mess with another fearless turn by Moore.
Don't miss the Q&A - and the movie trailer - after the jump. John & Julianne spoke about getting into the role of the deeply disturbed Barbara Baekeland - and why the gays love her so much...

 Yo Majesty
-- Trish Bendix from AfterEllen.com

The New York Times Magazine had the right idea: a photo spread of women who play instruments and make great music. They styled four bands and one hip-hop duo for "Group Dynamics," which published on Sunday. Again, great theory, but the execution was poor. Unfortunately, it's the same old story: no diversity.
With only room for five bands, there were 16 ladies included. Only two of them were African American (the aforementioned hip-hop duo, Yo Majesty). OK, the Times does get some points for gayness (Yo Majesty and members of Electrelane are queer), but the rest of the women are all thin, white model-esque women that can barely crack smiles.
Yo Majesty actually have the most interesting write-up, however, with a great quote from Shunda K:

Yes, I'm way too big a Britney fan ... back to the first single from N*E*R*D's new album, Seeing Sounds, due June 10.
I'll give the group credit: this isn't a club number it could churn out while watching TV. It is, though, an attack on the L.A. club scene, particularly its women. And yes, Lindsay Lohan makes a cameo in a music video about girls who do coke ... totally smart!

Michael Lohan took time away from his Christian rehab gig to tell USWeekly Lindsay Lohan and DJ Samantha Ronson's relationship is "is evident to anyone with half a brain."

Usher's new album, Here I Stand, comes out today, but I don't see how it could live up to phenom that was 2004's Confessions - an album that went platinum 10 times and led to four No. 1 singles. Maybe it will, but as far as leads go, "Love in This Club" is no "Yeah!" - not even close.
But judge for yourself: LOGOonline is streaming the entire Usher album now, including the video we've got here. "Moving Mountains" picks up where the "Love" video left off ... but not really. Why bother with this non-plot? Usher wails in front of a green screen, I'm assuming, for this - his? - ridiculously over-dramatic concept. Come on with the climbing the collapsing mountain ...

Jeez, Lil Mama is talented. I can't believe this stuff is coming out of an 18-year-old. I think she can officially stop hosting America's Best Dance Crew now.
For her fourth VYP: Voice of The Young People single Mama gets dead serious, but it works so well - and also paints a tragic picture of what she may have experienced growing up. Mama raps about her 'crack-fiend' mother and that she's 'so hurt this is me.' ... Recently the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced that it has approved a new Emmy Award category for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program. The competitive shoe will be on the other foot when the hosts battle it out with each other at the 2008 Emmy Awards. The category is open to hosts only so "reactive participants or judges" are not eligible to receive the award (sorry, Paula Abdul.)
Hosting is no easy task: each week these women help us wade through the competitive waters of posing, food plating, dating and hem lines. Let’s hope that some of these ladies have a chance at Emmy gold when they go up against some of the already assumed male nominees (I’m talking to you, Seacrest.)

Are you ready for Dr. Starbuck? Battlestar Galactica veteran Katee Sackhoff has signed on as a recurring character in the sixth season of Nip/Tuck. She will play Dr. Theodora “Teddy” Lowe, a new doctor who challenges Dylan Walsh’s character Sean.
"Teddy?" Well, it’s good to see she hasn’t lost her affinity for nicknames. But, once again, I fear Katee is starring in a series below her abilities. Welcome to the Dollhouse. Fox unveiled its new Joss Whedon-helmed, Eliza Dushku-starring series during last week’s network upfront presentations. In addition to releasing cast photos, the ambitious sci-fi series’ trailer was unfurled. The show has been given a mid-season slot and will debut in January.
The trailer looks kind of – oh, what’s that word – awesome. On this last cycle of America's Next Top Model, second runner up Fatima was constantly being compared to Iman. Iman told New York Magazine that she's not necessarily in support of "all black" issues of magazines, however. "They'll think, 'Okay, we did it.' In 1993, Beavis and Butthead was a new show on MTV, Conan O'Brien got his very own late night slot, and the feel-good movie of the year, Schindler's List, was released. It was also the year we heard of a new singer/songwriter from Chicago named Liz Phair. She was ballsy, and her debut album Exile in Guyville was forwardly feminist, mocking of the Rolling Stones' Exile on Main St. and also of her position as a female in the music industry. She had attitude, and sang songs like "F--- and Run" about being sick of one night stands.
Exile in Guyville is still on the top of "Best Albums Ever" lists everywhere, but Phair was never quite able to create an album as loved since. Her second (Whip-Smart) and third (whitechocolatespaceegg) were fan favorites, but not as well received by critics. After a short hiatus, she did the unthinkable in the judgmental land of indie rock — she hired the songwriting trio, The Matrix, and put out a major label self-titled album of radio ready songs like "Why Can't I?" and "Extraordinary." There was a Liz Phair backlash, and she’s been the poster child for being a sell out since the early 2000s.
