Suck It Up & Dance! The Step It Up Recap Vlog With "Mr. Broadway"!

Here he cooomes, Mr. Broadwaaay... Well, that's what we'd like to call this week's guest on  Suck It Up & Dance, but we might get sued! Nevermind ... Suck It Up this week is all about pageants and glitter - and dancing like men - so prepare yourselves. And yes, we have an amazing guest: the winner of the second-annual Broadway Beauty Pageant Marty Thomas!

Marty entered as Mr. Xanadu and roller-skated out of there with the title - and with that tiara! We chatted about Xanadu's origins, roller-skating injuries and his childhood owning of one Britney Spears on Ed McMahon's Junior Star Search. And, of course, we recapped the most recent Damn Yankees-themed episode of Step It Up & Dance.

We're not done yet! NewNowNext has an exclusive interview with recently-eliminated Oscar. Read the Q&A after the jump!

How was watching the episode last night?

I was very upset, because musical theater, it's my forte - and I know what I can do, and I know what I can not do. So I was very upset.

We don't really hear the judges from on the stage, and for the first time I heard what Nancy was saying about me and Mike. And when she deliberates, she said something, Yeah, Mike, your technique is like butter, but I look forward to seeing more of you. That's when I thought in my mind, OK, I'm being eliminated now. She actually deliberated before the deliberation. So…

Was there anything we didn’t see during your time you wish had aired?

I think the show... We danced more than they showed; that's all I can say. There was more to it than they showed.

So why were you so angry with Michael?

Well, he lied to the judges; he told them we were rude to him. That didn't make sense, because he lied in front of us and in front of them without any … remorse.

Yeah, I don’t even understand why he said that or why he brought it up.

You know when you are scared, you have to bring up another subject - you know what I mean? - you have to create another story. So that's what he did.

Both of the judges told him he didn't have any technique, and this challenge was about technique. Even Elizabeth Berkley said, It's not about being masculine; it's about technique. And Nancy told again and again I'm not good enough - which is not true.

And you won the challenge when you had to be totally masculine.

Right, so that didn't make any sense, what she said.

Do you think Nancy always telling you gays to be more masculine is a legitimate criticism?

I don't think that she does it on purpose, but I think sometimes she turns out to be very homophobic. She doesn't say it once - she says it every single episode. It makes me think ... sometimes I was thinking, OK, she’s very homophobic. Maybe she's not, but what she said all the time was very - kind of – homophobic, You have to be a straight dancer. You can be yellow, dark, black, green, gay, straight ... everything! It doesn't make sense.

And she’s said it almost every episode.

Yeah, she does. You have to be more masculine! If you were more masculine... Oh, for goodness sake!

So did you get along with all the gay boys in the house?

I got along very well. I'm a very nice guy; I'm always positive … except when they put me in the elimination group all the time. I'm kidding!

Except Mike, everybody else was just great. I know it's a competition, but Mike was always talking about this or this or that - I mean, UghYou have no personality. Everybody else has personality; he doesn't. He just wants to impress you with, you know, what you've done in your life. So that was the only turn-off for the group.

But everybody's great people – great personalities, great dancers. So, I enjoyed it.

Tell me the difference between American gays and Italian gays.

You know the typical straight guy here has to be the guy who plays football. In Europe, they're very thin, very lean. Not that here they're fat, but it's very more ... even French people, they're all thin, so you can’t really tell if they're gay or straight.

Here, there is one way - OK I give you an example: GAP – American; Dolce and Gabbana – Italy. [Laughs] Which is fine! I love ... GAP - but this is the comparison. You know what I mean? There is only one way and no other way. And that's why Nancy is always like [lowers voice], You have to be more masculine. You have to be more masculine. It's like saying, You have to be more GAP.

I saw a bonus clip online of you runway walking with Miguel and James. Where did you learn to do that?

OK! I danced with a ballet company here, and I danced with them for five years. And they teach me how, the girls in the company. They teach me how to walk in heels! And you know, I did musical theater – I did CATS, I did West Side Story ...

You were Mr. Mistoffelees in CATS, right?

I was! Chicago Tribune 2003 - that was fantastic.

So what's next for you? Will you continue to focus on dance?

Well, I danced for 13 years ... My big turn-out was when I danced for Princess Diana in London; that was the biggest point in my life. I danced with a company in London and she was the patron of the company - her with Charles. So that was a big turn-out.

So I did everything, really: I danced in movies such as Enchanted, Step Up 1 ... so I did everything I wanted to do. Now, I took a break – not a break, you know - I took time to go back to school, because, of course, you cannot dance forever, and if you do, you're a freak. [Laughs]

So I went to get my diploma from the Aveda Institute for cosmetology, and now I'm working at the Warren Tricomi here in New York at the Plaza Hotel. So I think my main focus is going to be that. But if I have to go on tour again ... you never know. My options are always open.
