I'm loving Alanis Morissette like crazy right now: Upon telling a shocked Howard Stern she got with girls in her youth, Alanis politely reminded the gruff, backward Howie: A). "It's fun to be a slut," and B). "It's a rite of passage to experiment with your sexuality at some point."
... and when Howard said he wouldn't experiment with a man, Alanis calmly shot back, "Well, it might be different for men. There's more homophobia going on." - Gawker

Since she's supported "hot, tranny mess"-coiner, Christian Siriano, Victoria Beckham better watch her back for an "angry transsexual escort from LA named Dawn." - PopCrunch
Although OUT's YEAH, I AM A FAG tag is a little misleading, the mag has a great interview with sexually-enlightened Pete Wentz – who said: "The actual acceptance of gay marriage is inevitable. It's just like how the next generation of kids are going to all have tattoos." – OUT.com

Out icon Sir Ian McKellen will bring his talents to the small screen in a six part "re-imagining" of the cult 60's show The Prisoner.
Ian will star as Number Two, one of the men in charge of "The Village", who makes life difficult for Number Six (played by Jim Caviezel, who last played Jesus), a man who awakens to find himself trapped in this strange environment.

Since Heidi Montag has USWeekly in her speed-dial, the gossip mag is privy to priceless - priceless! - remarks from that press-craving loony. Recall the Lauren-Heidi/The Hills feud peaked when Heidi and fiance Spencer Pratt publicly discussed Lauren Conrad's sex tape, which Lauren denied making. Well, Heidi actually said: "God knows the truth in all of this, and at the end of the day, that is the only thing that matters. Jesus was persecuted, and I'm going to get persecuted, ya know?"
Heidi also plans to record a Christian album and go to Africa to "feed children and help build things." Lovely. I'm still recovering from when Spencer told Tyra he plans to adopt an African child and name him Dunk since - of course - he'd be a basketball player...

If we can find the least bit of good news with the end in sight for Battlestar Galactica, it comes from the prospect of seeing the lovely ladies of BSG in other roles.
As Dorothy Snarker recently told us, Katee Sackhoff, AKA Starbuck, is set to tuck in with Sean on Nip/Tuck. Now comes word that Tricia Helfer, AKA Six, will co-star in a new Fox pilot, Inseparable.

In this week's Lo-Down, Sarah P. and I give you our review of the new Angelina Jolie movie Wanted, which just opened last Friday. In the movie, Angie plays a deadly assassin with some fantastic tattoos and extremely large guns. These assassins used to be weavers. Yeah, like people who made carpets.
If you just said "Huh?" then you're right with us. We won't give away the ending of the movie or any of the key plot points, but we do have a lot of fun poking fun at this strange and comedic backstory.

The cool peeps over at MTV's Buzzworthy blog interviewed newly gay-friendly Michelle Williams ... Oh, wait - as if Destiny's Child wasn't gay-friendly - Michelle's been loving us since back in the day! And now she's talking about slithering down her naked, incredibly-hot backup dancer...
Michelle's upcoming dance album, Unexpected, will more than likely be bumping in gay clubs near you - and she actually performed at Splash Bar for New York Pride last night. Keep it comin'!
After the jump, you can watch the "Break The Dawn" video - featuring those dancers Michelle mentioned. They're worth it...

Flyers from Mary's in East Atlanta... Is Georgia on our boozed-up gay-bar loving minds this Pride Weekend? Oooh, this is gonna get touchy!!! I just posted a story over on Logo's lovely travel site, Trip Out, which is titled "The 50 Best Gay Bars in America?" And yes, the question mark is intentional.
I love round-up stories like this, and yes, a list of the "best" gay bars is not going to please everyone. Especially because this article isn't about which bars (from coast to coast, from P-town to San Diego) are the coolest or slickest or most-all-inclusive or reputable. Hells no!!! This time it's all about appreciating the crazy, broken, messy, draggy, dive-y joints out there. Props to The Drinkery in Baltimore! To "Our Fantasy" in Wichita! To the Blacklite in L.A.! From The Cock in NYC to The Blacklite in L.A., some tips on how to drink your way from coast to coast!

I think, a few hold outs aside, we can all agree that Charlize Theron is a very attractive woman. Just in case you’re one of those “I need empirical evidence”-people, I give you exhibit A.:
She is also an intelligent, talented and successful woman. (Um, hello, Oscar.) That said, you’d think any movie studio would be happy to have her in their film – thrilled even. In fact, the very sight of her is probably enough to make any marketing department erupt with screams of glee. So then why is she all but missing for the marketing for her new misanthropic superhero film Hancock?

Dylan Vox, who stars in Dante's Cove and The Lair, will star in the upcoming
comedy Homewrecker, which is being described as a parody of Lifetime movies:
"Adapted from the hit 2006 Los Angeles stage production of Naked Deception, the feature-length film now in production tells the story of three happily married gay couples who fall under the seductive spell of hunky bad boy Shawn. He uses his wicked ways to create havoc as the homewrecker houseguest who won't leave until his voracious sexual appetite is sated. Reprising his stage role, Dylan Vox stars in the title role of this witty gay comedy. Watching his antics as the charming, irresistible homewrecker is both unnerving and hilarious, right down to the guaranteed happy ending."

Oh, enough with the basicallys, V. Basically, your new song sucks.
But I do kind of love Vanessa Hudgens - mainly for her naked photos and for putting up with Zac-y Efron in that fake relationship ... I mean,
that sometimes-it-seems-like-it's-a-publicity-stunt relationship. I just wish she'd embrace her unwanted new image and do a "Dirrty"-style smut-fest of a music video instead of this wholesome lameness. Maybe when her High School Musical tenure is up...
I also genuinely like Vanessa's voice. I've never seen the High School Musicals, but that "Come Back to Me" song was good. I swear. Watch the video after the jump...

As an unfortunate Top 40 kinda guy, I'm proud of myself for genuinely liking Hercules & Love Affair - and not just because it's super-gay. (Follow that link to hear the full album stream on LOGOonline.) Hercules, especially its main homo Andy Butler, pays a legit tribute to retro disco-house, but is at the same time really bizarre and innovative. I wish it was more popular ... but mainstream, Hercules is not. And this new video is low-budget, let's be real: I had one of those electricity, glass ball things when I was a kid.
For your info, the woman on vocals - who I thought for sure was a man when I heard the album - is Brooklyn singer Nomi, and the hooded man is Andy and the small woman playing with glasses is Kim Ann Foxman - all members of the Hercules project.
If you haven't heard lead single, "Blind," yet, you must check out the music video after the jump - as well as the NewNowNext video interview with Andy & Kim!

... and seems pretty sad, really. What did they do to poor Katy? Naturally, I prefer my interview with friend of the gays, enemy of the metros, Katy Perry - which you can watch after the jump - but this little segment from MTV News is still pretty interesting. Katy stays positive, though, and denies any drama with Lily Allen.
It is strange to me Katy grew up in a religious household and almost made her career in gospel; I like my Katy making out with girls and stroking kitties! The 2008 Black Entertainment Television Awards were last night and, as expected, it was quite a spectacle. Yesterday Stuntdouble wrote about one of Entertainment Weekly's lists from their current classic list issue. Today I'm writing about another one of the many lists: a Top Ten list from Sarah Michelle Gellar in which she reveals the new classic male TV characters she wishes she could play. In response to this I have written Gellar a small letter. Eh hem.
Dear Sarah Michelle,
Can I call you Sarah? I’ll presume you said no since I can’t hear your answer and we hardly know each other. I’m sure ‘Sarah’ is reserved for the important people in your life such as your hubby Freddy Prinze Jr. I understand that you and I are, at this point, merely internet strangers. But I do hope that after you read this you will see that I am not so much a random blogger, but rather someone looking out for your best artistic interests and then just maybe you will email me begging me to please call you Sarah … and you in turn can call me Ree-ree.

Techno-pop group Cascada - yes, the "Every Time We Touch" girl - just reminded me how popular it is in Europe (follow that link to read the NNN interview with the group's singer, Natalie Horler): this video's concert footage is kind of insane; that's a Madonna-level crowd!
So this new single from Cascada's Perfect Day album is more of the same throbbing, pop-y goodness you'd expect, but I always enjoy that stuff. I have to say, though, I know lyrics don't really matter in a song such as this, but 'Love is telephone' ... 'Love is an angel'? ...Really?
OK, I have to make fun of Natalie and Cascada just a little bit more - as much as I love them - for its hilariously-bad Perfect Day album cover. Enjoy it after the jump...

Obviously I love Leona Lewis - and not just because Oprah and the NewNowNext Awards told me to love her - but I'm a little surprised the public thought her Spirit album lived up to the phenom of lead single, "Bleeding Love." But people love that entire album, and while this single is definitely the runner-up for me, it's a distant second.
I've heard a few critics say Leona has no life experience or actual heartbreak in her voice - OK, she is 23 - and I think "Better in Time" is an instance in which you can tell she's a great singer and that she knows how great singers sound but isn't really feeling the subject herself ... but whatever! I still bleed Leona.

It’s official: Michelle Branch’s life is the one we covet. The 24-year-old is not only an Grammy award-winning musician who has guest-starred on Buffy The Vampire Slayer, she’s now opening a partially-organic bakery.

Can FOX do what ABC and NBC pulled off with Ugly Betty and The Office, respectively? It's time we find out, because the network is taking a risk in adapting the Argentinian telenovela Lalola into a new series.
According to Variety, Fox has picked up the gender-bending pilot about a womanizer who gets a taste of his own medicine when with two shakes of a stick he's turned from a rooster into a hen by a scorned ex.
That's right, it's a new body swapping "comedy" from the network that brought us such high class shows Cops and World's Worst Car Crashes.

TIME is running an interesting article and podcast from the True Colors Tour, asking people to define what a "gay song" is. One of the people they ask is radio DJ J.D. Doyle, who hosts a show called "Queer Voices", and takes umbrage with a popular perception:
"I could be describing my radio show to someone who hasn't heard of it, and I'd say its purpose is to share and preserve the history of gay music," Doyle said on a show a few years ago. "They'd say, 'Oh, disco music.' No, no. And I'd climb up on my soapbox and ask why they would think disco music is gay music, since most of it is by straight artists, mostly women, and only a tiny percent is lyrically gay. Very little of it is actually about our lives. By this time their eyes are quickly glazing over, and I realize once again I've taken the purist approach. But I certainly can't deny that to most people disco or dance music is the genre most associated with gay culture."

Ahoy from the P'town Ferry! "Gay movies dead ahead!" Greetings from P'town! Actually, I just got back to NYC from this past weekend's Provincetown Film Festival, a five-day combo platter of movies, celebs, shellfish, gayness and Bloody Marys.
Madonna's Filth & Wisdom film (her directorial debut) opened the festival this past Wednesday night, and reports reveal it's not bad. It's not great apparently, but it's not heinous and given Madge's film career, that's a rave review! John Waters was seen cycling all over town (as he does here every summer) and on Wednesday night he hosted a double-bill of the camp horror treasures The Tingler and Rosemary's Baby down the Cape at the Wellfleet Drive-In. Basically, Waters is the patron saint of the Ptown Film Fest, hosting events and just lending his good spirits and twisted humor to all of the activities.
I interviewed Waters this weekend. And I also chatted with studly Mexican actor/hottie Gael Garcia Bernal, mad movie mogul Quentin Tarantino (who loves lesbian vampire movies and the old-school gay thriller Cruising), Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball, queer filmmakers Gregg Araki (Mysterious Skin) and Tom Kalin (Swoon, Savage Grace) and more for video chats that you'll see soon on this site and AfterElton.com. My colleague Liz Dahmen from AfterEllen.com quizzed indie film mogul (Christine Vachon (Boys Don't Cry, Go Fish, Swoon, Velvet Goldmine, Far From Heaven, Hedwig) and out actress and comedy superhero Jane Lynch, too. Those are coming your way, too.
For now, check this slew of photos (below & after the jump) of the queery filmy shenanigans! Gael Garcia Bernal-icious!!! He rocked Ptown this past weekend with his directorial debut, "Deficit," and he snagged a special award for his acting career thus far. Woo-hoo! A funny note: When Gael Garcia Bernal took the stage to accept his acting award during the Ptown Film Fest awards ceremony, he gushed, "I feel like Miss Mexico!!!!" And then he even got teary-eyed. Awwww... The gays in the audiences swooned, naturally.

I can always appreciate an actress who chooses roles for a reason other than their ability to perform at the box office. Zooey Deschanel is that kind of girl (as in, my kind of girl.) Her bit part in Almost Famous led to several other projects that were both bigger and smaller, from indie projects to major motion pictures. It's almost like she cares about the craft or something!
Seriously though, my own love for her aside, Zooey is a talented actress who went from playing a small town Gothic sales clerk in The Good Girl to a narcissistic singing Santa's helper in Elf. From there she was a depressed actress (Winter Passing), a creative teacher (Bridge to Terabithia), and, oddly enough, Sarah Jessica Parker's roommate in Failure to Launch (which I couldn't bring myself to see, but I'm sure she was as good as you could be in such a train wreck of a film.)
