Pussycat Dolls on The Today Show

OK, here's my problem with these Today Show concerts - and I won't include the anchors' painful attempts at dancing to the music 'cause those speak for themselves: I know everything has to be condensed and soundbite-friendly, but why are the post-show questions always so rude and uninformed? Seriously - who thought it would go over well to have Matt Lauer lead off one of his two questions for the Pussycat Dolls with, "You must hate being in the studio..."?

Well, enough ranting ... maybe I'm just a little protective of my Dolls. (Speaking of! You read my super-gay Q&A with the Doll's Jessica Sutta, riiight?) They're always amazing to me. I concede Nicole's vocals are a little front-and-center for the early morning, but the girls still pull it off.

The Heidi Chronicles: Project Runway Season 5 Recap Vlog: Car Shop Challenge! So Long, Keith!

Gay music and video from NewNowNext.com

It's just John and Colin for this week's The Heidi Chronicles, but there's still plenty for us to cover regarding this week's Saturn-rrific episode of Project Runway. Topics include our love/hate/it's-complicated relationship with Utah Keith, the uber-sexual Heidi, John's newfound obsession with Stella and Ratbones and what scary substitute teacher Laura Bennett is up to these days. (P.S. Check out AfterElton.com's post-elimination interview with Keith for his take on his newfound sex-symbol status.)

We also share our own first-car stories, sexual-experiences-in-a-car stories and ... OK, forget it! We just can't contain our excitment for Diane Von Furstenberg-mania next week!

Kate Moss: Golden Girl

-- Gina Vivinetto from AfterEllen.com

Supermodel Kate Moss is giving Cleopatra a run for her money. A life-size statue of Moss has debuted at the British Museum.

The statue, which cost 1.5 million in British pounds (about $2.7 million) is thought to be the largest statue made of solid gold since the days of ancient Egypt.

The golden Moss, created by British sculptor Marc Quinn, has been christened “Siren,” and it’s part of a display of contemporary art that begins in October. The sculptor explains why he made a Moss of gold:

ABC Orders Gay-Inclusive Sitcom Pilot About Families

-- snicks from AfterElton.com

ABC has ordered a pilot from the magical producing team of Steven Levitan and Chris Lloyd, who between them have helped bring us such gay faves as Frasier and The Golden Girls (they were also responsible for the dubious Back To You and Stacked ... but they can't all be winners).

The unnamed pilot has an intriguing premise, and shows a lot of promise. It's about three families who have their lives recorded documentary-style by a Dutch filmmaker:

Lesbian Scientistics: Gossip Girl Edition

-- StuntDouble from AfterEllen.com

You know that feeling you get when you're 10 feet under water and you're almost out of breath, and you just start stroking and stroking, and kicking and kicking, and the water gets brighter and brighter, and then suddenly you break free into the glorious air, and you can just breathe? Well, good news, ladies: Gossip Girl's second season starts Monday. It's almost time to breathe again.

The internet is fluttering with rumors and speculation about what's in store for our favorite Upper East Siders in the coming season. Like, what's happening in this paparazzi-snapped photograph? I mean, I know what's happening: Serena and Blair are having a full-on cat fight — but why?

The Virgins "Rich Girls" Video

Gay music and video from NewNowNext.com

The Virgins have done it again: a perfectly sexy concept somehow goes dirty and uncomfortable. I mean, wouldn't you want a hot, lingerie-clad model straddling you at a bar and smoking your cigarettes? ...Right? Yet I feel like I need some Purell having just watched this...

Anyway, this Chromeo-sounding track is a bros-before-hos/don't-try-to-change-me-baby sorta number, and I'm liking it well enough. Are they already so tired of girls praising "their way with words," though? Boys, boys - no wonder you're virgins.

Björk Wants Credit Where Credit Is Due

-- Gnome Sayin' from AfterEllen.com

Earlier this week, Björk issued a statement that took the Icelandic publication The Reykjavik Grapevine to task for crediting Valgeir Sigurðsson with writing the arrangements on her 2001 album, Vespertine. The singer responded to the news item in a detailed statement that includes a list of the album’s credits. Björk wants to make the music press accountable for perpetuating the perception that men turn all the knobs in the production of electronic music.

Her full post appears on her Web site. The excerpt here gives one of four reasons why the misunderstanding around crediting continues to persist.

Jessica Sutta from The Pussycat Dolls Interview With NewNowNext!

Jessicasutta_pussycatdolls_5

The Pussycat Dolls' sophomore album, Doll Domination, comes out September 23, and all I can say is I've never been so excited about pussy(cats) in my life! I have a documented obsession with "When I Grow Up" and with PCD, in general - I'm not alone ... you gays know "Buttons" is a classic - so I'm expecting campy greatness next month.

Earlier this week, I chatted with the Dolls' sexy, resident redhead, Jessica Sutta. Talking gay cred, along with her PCD videos and performances, Jess has even collaborated with dance music maven Paul Van Dyk. Jessica and I chatted about PCD's mega-gay following and the time her own drag impersonator took her down in a game of Faggot Feud - she even gave a preview of her solo track on the upcoming album!

Styled Out: She's Got Leggings

-- emily hartl from AfterEllen.com

I'm Emily Hartl, the new style blogger for AfterEllen.com. Styled Out will be a weekly blog, running on Wednesdays, all about fashion. Its aim is to be different than other fashion coverage though, as it'll be exceptionally less straight! About me: I'm a salon executive and fashion show producer, as well as a personal stylist. In a past life, I wrote a fashion column for an online lesbian magazine and I'm excited to be back at it on AfterEllen.com. Please do utilize the comments section to let me know what you want to see about style. We gay girls are an untapped resource when it comes to fashion, so shouts from the peanut gallery are always encouraged.

Meet Charlie Herschel, Survivor: Gabon's Gay, Single NYC Lawyer

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

Today CBS unveiled the cast of Survivor: Gabon, the 4,673rd season of their successful reality competition. And, as in past seasons, there is a gay man among the castaways: 29-year-old Charlie Herschel, an attorney from New York. Charlie runs marathons in his spare time (he says that his training helped him lose 60 pounds and keep it off) and that his strategy for game play is " "With high risks, come high rewards, but the risks must be calculated."

Take a peek at Charlie's bio if you want to learn more, or check out this intro video of Charlie discussing the game. After the wins of out contestants Todd and Richard, Charlie's combination of smarts, persuasive skills and physical strength sound pretty promising.

Q&A: Erasure's Andy Bell

75958567_3

Singing songs that have been part of people’s life soundtracks for the last 20 years, Andy Bell remains a charming gay icon not only because of Erasure’s numerous hits, but because of his openness and honesty. Having come out in the 80s—and then again in 2004 as being HIV positive—Andy Bell has proven that integrity and artistry are not mutually exclusive facets. You can too sell over 25 million albums worldwide and carry your head up high. Surely that deserves more than a little respect.

Most recently, Andy traveled to 24 American cities as an act on the True Colors tour. His recognizable voice and pop-perfect songs have made him a sought after performer this year, making appearances in various gay pride festivals across the pond and elsewhere.

I interviewed the voice of Erasure to find out what the rest of this year looks like for him. The charismatic crooner dished on who he was most excited to see during True Colors, his dream duet and “Telly Nellies.”

You can cast your vote for “Television’s Most Memorable Moments” in the categories of drama and comedy, and the winning clips will air during the live broadcast on September 21.  The ABC site lists all 40 nominees and has videos of each one to refresh your memory.

Cazwell "I Seen Beyonce at Burger King" Video

Gay music and video from NewNowNext.com

Yes, we love Cazwell here at LOGO - or as Caz would tell me in his Worcester accent, LAAA-GO - and I'm happy to report the latest video from our resident rapper/NYC DJ is one hot mess of an order. Guest stars include self-proclaimed New York socialite Jonny Makeup - who I think is gunning to be Paris' BFF? - and a majorly-fierce, weave-patting Beyonce.

And I want to point out a comment on Caz's MySpace left by one LadyLuxe - a music artist in her own right, it seems - citing the time she "Saw Tyra at Rite-Aid" ... which clearly needs to be the follow-up single.

Judgment Call: American Idol Adds on to Its Firing Squad

-- Grace Chu from AfterEllen.com

American Idol is getting a fourth judge — the smart, capable and sexy songwriter, artist and business owner Kara DioGuardi.

"Kara who?" you ask. Her name may not ring a bell, but unless you have been living in a cave or are one of those people who proclaim themselves to be too "enlightened" for Top 40 music, you have definitely heard her work on the radio. Her work includes Kelly Clarkston's "Walk Away," Christina Aguilera's "Ain't No Other Man," Gwen Stefani's "Rich  Girl," The Pussycat Dolls' "Beep," Ashlee Simpson's "Pieces of Me," Nick Lachey's "What's  Left of Me" and many others.

In fact, it looks like an artist cannot be considered part of pop music royalty unless he or she has collaborated with Kara DioGuardi. From her official biography:

Robin Thicke Interview With NewNowNext NOISE!

Gay music and video from NewNowNext.com

I think we can all agree Grammy-winner Robin Thicke - son of Growing Pains' Alan, husband of actress Paula Patton - brings some sweet and smooth sounds to the worlds of R&B and new-age soul, which include 2006 ballad "Lost Without U." But I know we can all - fans and non-fans of R&B alike - agree Robin brings enough sexy for everyone's world. Overall consensus: Paula is a lucky woman.

OK, OK - I'm finished. I got the chance to talk with the very nice, very tall singer about his upcoming record and about all the straight female and gay male lust thrown his way ... and, of course, the "love-making music."

Christina Applegate Is a Talented Actress And an Even Stronger Woman

-- Kim Ruehl from AfterEllen.com

I can’t be alone on this one: I used to have to sneak around to watch Married With Children. My mom was so not down with me watching that show. I didn’t totally get it (until later), but I loved Christina Applegate enough in her role that I even watched when she was on 21 Jump Street. I also watched when she starred in Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead. I tuned in to see her in Mars Attacks! and The Sweetest Thing.

Let’s not forget her fierce Emmy-winning performance on Friends, and the brilliance that is Anchorman.

First Still From I Love You Phillip Morris?

Yesterday the above pic, which is being touted as the first official still from the movie, hit the web.

The Heidi Chronicles: Project Runway Season 5 Recap Vlog: With Chris March!

Gay music and video from NewNowNext.com

Apologies for the late vlog this week, Heidi Chronicles viewers, but this edition is worth the wait: We have a very special guest, the drag artiste himself, Chris March! And in John Polly's and my absence, AfterElton.com's Brian Juergens does a fantastic job of chatting up the Project Runway season five contestant.

Topics include Michael Kors and Tim Gunn drag queen personas, major drag don'ts (such as the "bad tuck") and working with Bravo on the production end this time around...

Lance Bass Will Be Dancing With the Stars

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

Tom Bergeron appeared on Good Morning America today to announce the final cast for Season 7 of Dancing With the Stars, joking that he had been "drinking all night" in preparation for the big announcement.

And as had previously been rumored, gay pop star Lance Bass is among the dancers for this season, making him the first openly gay man to compete. Whether the show will push the envelope further by pairing him with a male partner remains to be seen (he is currently paired up with a new female dancer, Lacey Schwimmer, but who knows what they might pull as the competition advances).

Ouch! Madonna Kicks Off Sticky And Sweet Tour

Wanted: Women in Stoner Movies

-- Gnome Sayin' from AfterEllen.com

What can I say? I love stoner humor — and I got plenty of it without actually having to inhale at the new Seth Rogen/James Franco flick, Pineapple Express, which opened to glowing critical acclaim and a healthy toke of dough at the box office. While I laughed myself into near seizures, I had to pause and think about how there hasn’t really been a female driven stoner comedy.

Why wasn’t there a female stoner comedy scorched into our collective memory; a film that could stand the test of stoner time? I could not for the life of me recollect ever seeing any female comedy duos like Rogen and Franco or Cheech and Chong. I would love to have a protagonist I can identify with and I have a feeling a lot of movie watching females feel the same way, too.

P!nk "So What" Video

Gay music and video from NewNowNext.com

Ah, what a divorce and a Max Martin collaboration can do for a music career! Now, I completely worship Pink and only want good things for her, so it's nice to see she - along with that Swedish genius Max, who also gave Pink "U + Ur Hand" - got a fantastic ef-you anthem out of her breakup with husband, Carey Hart.

"So What" is the first single from Pink's fifth (fifth?) studio album, Funhouse, due in October. She's also going to rock this year's VMAs with a performance on September 7. I enjoyed the video, especially Pink terrorizing those newlyweds, but the Carey cameo is a little weird, huh? I guess it was an amicable divorce... Pink assured fans, in regards to the song, "Don't worry, Carey likey's too." (Read the letter after the jump.)

New Walter Meego Video: "Forever"

Gay music and video from NewNowNext.com

To be frank, I wasn't sure what or who a Walter Meego was either... What I do know is that their (yes, "Walter" is a electropoppy duo from Chicago who make zingy, sort of infectious, buzzworthy pop tunes) song "Forever" is pretty peppy and the video is colorful and summery. And these boys -- Justin Sconza (vocals) and Colin Yarck (beats/muzak) -- seem pretty lovely, so why not?

The guys have also had tunes featured on Ugly Betty and this "Forever" tune was included in a Heineken ad. I like Ugly Betty and Heineken so no complaints there either...

Enough jabbering. It's Friday. It's getting on near the end of August. Do like the Meego lads and get thyself to a swimming pool. Cheers!

Róisín Murphy Mania

Murphy

I'm all about Ms. Murphy these days. (With good reason, too.) It's been close to a year since the release of her second solo album, "Overpowered," yet the Irish pop glamazon's CD continues to pick up steam. Overseas, that is...

Now it seems the good ole US of A might finally get in on some of that action. In October, Róisín will play the CMJ Music Marathon in NYC, to coincide with the international release of her next single, "Movie Star." She'll also re-shoot a new video for the single and, ever the busy bee, she's recorded a bangin' cover of Bryan Ferry's "Slave to Love," to be used in the new Gucci men's fragrance ad (featuring Milk hottie James Franco). With all this action, surely she'll be touring North America? Fingers crossed.

NewNowNext NOISE: An Interview with Margaret Cho

Gay music and video from NewNowNext.com

Margaret Cho is coming back to TV in a big, ballsy way starting tonight when her new reality series "The Cho Show" debuts on VH1 at 11pm. (Pssst! It's already gotten a sneak premiere on Logo, and you can watch the entire first episode online now.) The show is sort of a "Her Life on the Cho List," and it's sweet, funny, raw and smart -- just like Margaret.

To celebrate the bawdy brilliance that is the showbiz survivor Cho, we chatted her up when she visited MTV last week. Above, Ms. C discusses her mom (can't you just hear Mother Cho somewhere braying "Mooooraaaaaannn!") who appears on the new show. And Margaret talks about her love/lust for trannies, her husband, her gay co-stars on the show, and why Kim Kardashian's booty can whoop Paris Hilton's boney ass any day of the week.

Plus, Margaret's looking faboo these days. Attagirl!!! This Cho must go on!

Amy Sedaris Blows Out Bust Mag's 15th B-Day Candles

Nnnbust2

The mighty Amy Sedaris was the perfect hostess for Bust Magazine's extravagant 15th birthday celebration in New York City's South Street Seaport last week.

The evening was a hallucinatory mix of circus, music and burlesque - perfect for the girl-power magazine whose motto is "A magazine for women who have something to get off their chests." Amy casually introduced the acts as if we were in her living room instead of the elegantly mirrored Spiegeltent. You can't see it here, but her dress is embroidered with the words, "I Like Rum." Cheers!

Who's Gay Today?

Knight

Doesn't that header sound a lot like the name of an imminent game show? Well, that's what it feels like when the blogosphere goes bananas over the latest is-he-or-isn't-he. How many times have you scoped out some hottie on IMDb and then looked at the forum underneath? Nine times outta ten, there's always the "Is he GAY?!?!" thread. And I'm all for curiosity and all...

Anyway, today's latest victim is none other than NKOTB's Jonathan Knight, who the blogosphere claims is this close to becoming this year's Lance. If he is, then great! Welcome! Toaster ovens no longer available, though. And is he's not, well, the Internet will await its next victim.

New M83 Video: "Kim and Jessie"

Gay music and video from NewNowNext.com

French shoegazer Anthony Gonzalez is the guy behind M83, and he must have a thing for girls in figure-skating outfits. This video for their M83's latest "Kim and Jessie" casts a pair of high-schoolish gals who get dolled up in shiny pink tutus and roller-skate themselves silly. Maybe it's the 80's-sounding tune (very Breakfast Club soundtrack), but something about this clip is totally capitivating.

But watch out for the mean girls in yellow Tonya Harding-esque formations on wheels! And you can't help but get excited when the lasses take to the roads (looking like girly Power Rangers) for a burst of gal-pal freedom. I just got bummed at the end 'cuz I thought Kim and Jessie were gonna totally get together...

Skate on!

365Gay.com Video: "Who's Your Favorite Gay Celebrity?"

The newshounds over at 365Gay.com are a busy bunch. (And yes, they're our sister site.) They report on the Presidential race, world news, hate crimes across the planet, queer-relevant legislation -- all the majors. So who'd think they'd have time to send the very gay Mike Diamond out on to the streets of Chelsea to ask homo passersby "Who's your favorite gay celeb?" And yet they did.

This video kind of rules because of the fierce folks Mike talks to. And I know Johnny Dangerous is a popular gay performer, but who knew he'd get props right up there with Ellen and George Michael?

And I'm living for the interviewee who's like, "I don't listen to gay celebrities..." until Ellen comes up. "I liiive for her. She's funny and she's making money." Wurk.< /p>

Cute stuff.

New Video from The Bridges: "Pieces"

Gay music and video from NewNowNext.com

The Bridges are a band from Oxford, Alabama, fronted by the very pretty Brittany Painter (think Jenny Lewis, but younger and less dour -- with darker hair) and a trio of other nice-looking women. At first I thought their fifth member, the drummer was a butch slender female, but he's just a skinny guy. Whatevs! Plus, all but Brittany have the last name "Byrd." They're related! Adorable!

Their first single, "Pieces" is getting play on MTVU and no wonder! It's melodic and full of piano, strummy guitars, and dramatic ups and downs. And then they all start harmonizing... Whoa! Nice. Have a look.

Beckham: The Musical?

Becks_5

File this one under Really?!?! or Now That's Just Plain Silly!: A London paper is reporting that a librettist has taken to writing a musical for London's West End about soccer god David Beckham's life. Mark Archer, the hopeful in question, has included choice lines about Beckham's "aspirational fable" of a life such as:

On meeting Posh:

A change has come around,
As I worship this ground,
With you in my life,
We’re turning the world upside down.

Or, even better. On Manchester United's support through the "difficult times:"

You make me feel so strong,
Because I belong.

Is this a joke? Seriously? But before you Beckham heads (or musical theatre geeks ) have a conniption, settle down. This 'goal' is still simply just an idea. Archer will meet with West End producers this week to discuss further possibilities. My only question is: Who will play Beckham, and will he have as, er, soft a voice?

The Heidi Chronicles: Project Runway Season 5 Recap Vlog: Brooke Knows Best!

Gay music and video from NewNowNext.com

In honor of this past week's episode of Project Runway starring guest judge Brooke Shields (in a shameless clever cross-promo appearance hyping up her returning NBC series Lipstick Jungle), Colin & John pull out their worst best business-lady drag. (Anybody wanna buy a slightly used wig?) You think it's easy being a stylish female urban executive? We're here to attest that it ain't.

Also, we're still stumped by this issue about "should your pantyhose make a statement?" Uh, hell yes. Why not? (Er... Women still wear pantyhose?)

Anyway, this week we discuss gratuitous Keith skin (yay!), Kenley's evil giggling fit (nay!), and Terri's use of the terms "balls and vajayjay" (vajayjay!). Plus, all you need to know about dressing tastefully for work = NO VISIBLE THONGS.

Auf Wiedersehen, already!

New Solange Knowles Video: "Sandcastle Disco"

Gay music and video from NewNowNext.com

Ready for some Solange soup? It's gonna be tasty, I promise. Yes, Beyonce's kid sis (and Bring It On sequel survivor) Solange Knowles is serving up the second video from her upcoming album Sol-Angel and the Hadley Street Dreams (coming next week), and this bouncy bright clip just confirms the fact I love her to death.

"Sandcastle Disco" is its name, which seems a feeble excuse to allow SK to lay out the lyric "I'm nothing but a sandcastle, baby don't blow me away..." But the beat's irresistible and the lo-fi visuals in this vid are so darn sunny and peppy and cute, who cares? I'm loving Solange's giddy, girly vibes (first witnessed with her retro clip "I Decided") and her janky, loopy fashion sense. Ms. K clearly knows her way around a shoe dept, and she can even jog in heels! She's like Beyonce with a sense of humor!

Anyway, it's a perfect end-of-summer tune. And you know you still have some sandcastles left in you, right? After the jump, dig that Solange video interview we did with her a couple of months back that got a zillion links. Check it out. Tina's baby girl needs your love!

Gone Fishin': But SamRo and Lindsay Can Manage Just Fine

It's August, and just about every sucker in NYC is out of town. Or headed that way... And that includes us here at NewNowNext. Colin's away all this coming week, Aug 18-25 (visiting family down south for a much needed vacation), which is why I'm here to tell you that the posts will be coming a bit more slowly for the next seven days. But you won't mind, right?

Check back for some music videos, some Project Runway recap vlogging, a chat with Margaret Cho, and other fun stuff next week. But on the whole, things will be quieter than usual. (Actually, we're heading off for a week away with SamRo and LiLo. We met last night at the Apple Lounge in WeHo -- see below -- and totally hit it off. Crazy, right?)

Anyway, here's a snap to get your weekend off to a smirky start. Mwah!!!

New Morningwood Video: "Sugarbaby"

Gay music and video from NewNowNext.com

NYC's Chantal Claret and Morningwood are back. Remember back in 2005 when they first boinked across the music scene with a big gay marketing push, their self-titled debut album, and the single "Nth Degree?" Well, Ms. Claret hasn't changed her cheeky ways. M-wood's sound is still very much crunchy, fizzy guitar pop -- the kind of decadent fast-food rock that'll have you ordering that extra shot at 3am, when you really oughtta be getting into a taxi.

The new single "Sugarbaby" features a Chantal-like puppet slutting her way across NYC (and it's peppered with references to Ludlow Street and American Apparel - and that's just first verse). There's even a dirty version you can view via the band's MySpace page. (Hint: There's some druggie action and oral business included. Gasp! Miss Piggy would not approve.) The whole thing is sort of "Sex and the City" meets Avenue Q meets "The Bad Girls Club."

FYI: Morningwood's "Sugarbaby" EP came out this week. And you can also check out a video of puppet Chantal listing her favorite 5 bad albums online. Cute, but DeeeLite's "World Clique" is on that list? Huh? Lady Miss Kier and her crew ruled on that one muppet-lady. Don't make me come for you...

New Vampire Weekend Video: "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa"

You know 'em by now, and since a fourth single from a debut album is pretty darn impressive for anyone - this track being the band's best, in my humble I-don't-really-get-them opinion - it's no surprise the Vampire Weekend boys are switching things up a bit for their videos, as well as working on new material. The "Cape Cod" track - about Ezra Koenig's observed connection between the country-club aesthetic and African and Indian cultures - definitely has a charm and unpretentiousness that appeals to me ("Oxford Comma" and "A-Punk," which you can watch after the jump: not so much).

The boys have said they try to avoid "acting" or being too literal in music videos, which I appreciate, so this narrative of a Benetton-wearing country-club boy undergoing a goth transformation is a change of pace for them ... but anyone else digging it?

Liza Lapira Joins NCIS Full-Time

-- Trish Bendix from AfterEllen.com

Liza Lapira is an anomaly. Sad, but true. As a Filipino American actress who works in TV, theater and film, Lapira is a woman of color that shows of her triple-threat skills without subjecting herself to crap roles. In the past year, she's starred in 21 alongside Kevin Spacey and Kate Bosworth, and had a cameo in Cloverfield. Her reoccurring role on the CBS drama NCIS, though, is probably what most people remember her from.

As Special Agent Michelle Lee, Lapira has made several appearances on the show, yet it was never a permanent gig, until now. She has signed on to play Michelle Lee the entire season, and the plot line will revolve around her being a legal transfer to the unit that was delayed due to an "average" assessment. (We demand a recount!)

But I do have the inside track to dozens of publicity stills that The CW released yesterday for the upcoming season of Gossip Girl. Here's what I can say with absolute certainty about the season 2 premiere, "Summer Kind of Wonderful."

White is the color of choice in the Hamptons.

Watch Margaret Cho's The Cho Show Trailer

Thechoshow

Haunted vaginas? A fake, S&M-style, celeb sex tape? The words, "May The Best Queen Win"? ...  Oh, Margaret Cho's appealing to my gayness again - and it's working. In Vh1's answer to Kathy Griffin: My Life on The D-List, comedian and ultimate gay ally Margaret Cho's new reality show, The Cho Show, will premiere on the channel August 21. From this trailer I'll just say, thank god Margaret's mom makes appearances (same goes for this "Glam Squad" and a pretty bonkers personal assistant).

And good news you for you gays: LOGO's actually airing the premiere episode before Vh1 on Monday August 18 at 8:30 ET ... and for you LOGOonline gays! The episode will be streaming on the homepage starting tomorrow. Looks like they recognize Margaret's core audience...

Hilary Swank Buys The Rights for French Women Don't Get Fat

-- Trish Bendix from AfterEllen.com

French women and Hilary Swank don't get fat. How is that possible? Well, I'm not quite sure as I haven't read the book, but I assume it has something to do with personal trainers and metabolisms. Over two million copies of French Women Don't Get Fat have been sold worldwide, and Swank is obviously a fan, as she's purchased the rights to adapt it for the big screen.

Swank and producing partner Molly Smith (pictured below at the premiere of Swank's film P.S. I Love You) own 2S Films, and together they will develop and co-produce the feature film. The actress is rumored to star in the movie as well, but nothing has been confirmed.

America's Next Top Tranny?

41582485

Over the 11 (!!!!) seasons of Top Model, there've been some girls with questionable, er, mannish features. I'm not saying they weren't real women, I'm just saying they were real masculine lookin.' Who could forget (last season's) Dominique's drag-licious looks, or (season five contestant) Coryn's square jaw and broad shoulders? Well, Ms. Banks done gone and stepped it up a notch, by actually having a trans girl be a final contestant! And she's not just any other tranny! Isis was one of the homeless girls that upstaged the actual models during season 10's homeless shoot.

I'm all for Tyra being progressive, but let's give credit where credit is due: Janice Dickinson did it first! Here's hoping Isis schools some of the other girls in realness.

Watch Uh Huh Her "Not a Love Song" Video, Plus Full Album Stream

You mean that band with the girl from The L Word? Uh-huuuuh... OK, I'll stop. That's not where the name comes from (actually from a PJ Harvey song, I believe), but it is a name you should probably be getting to know. This new electro-pop duo made up of Camila Grey and, yes, Leisha Hailey from The L Word will release its debut album, Common Reaction, August 19. And although the two women got together in 2006, they're both quite the musical veterans: Years prior, Hailey performed in the band The Murmurs and Grey did bass and keyboard for Mellowdrone.

Now this lead single kind of reminds me of Goldfrapp - maybe it's just the unicorn? - and the animations remind me of those retro grammar cartoons I used to watch - but I dig it, I have to say. LOGOonline has the album leak, so go check out the entire CD before it hits stores if that whole sexy, electro-throb-iness is your thing...

Ellen Page Comes Out (on DVD)

Preaching to the Perverted

-- Ms. Anthrope from AfterEllen.com

Lots of new DVDs are hitting stores this week and, of course, very few of them (make that one) feature lesbian and bisexual characters. Strangely enough, though, there doesn’t seem to be a shortage of Girls Gone Wild-type docs (I counted no less than six separate titles this week — go figure.) But don’t let this sad little fact make you cancel your subscription to Netflix. There are still a couple of DVDs with hot lady appeal.

She's No Hair-Biter, But I'll Take Her: Jonas Brothers & Lady GaGa on TRL

Jonastrlgirlcryagain

And the Jonas on the right gives two sh*ts. I love it. As I've said, I don't write about these boys that often, but apparently it's Jonas Week over at TRL, and I really can't ignore the girls in Times Square right now: They are out of their minds. I mean, I like "Burnin' Up" too, and the of-legal-age ones are cute - I'll definitely give them they dress amazingly-well - but I'm not with the level of hysteria ... and I'm usually right there with the 14-year-old girls!

I also love that the Jonas brothers all wear promise rings. Right. We'll see how long that lasts. These girls would flash-and-drop if a Jonas so much as looked at them.

But the real news of today's TRL was an appearance by one, Lady GaGa - who looked like Red Riding Hood's goth, hard-partying older sister!

Daily Buzz Bits: Gabe Saporta Isn't Dead, Ryan Seacrest Used to Model

Gaybuzzcelebritiesgossip

After getting James Franco to talk about kissing Sean Penn in Milk (again) and about seeing his first cock ring while researching a part as a New Orleans prostitute, the guys at GQ hosed down James for these lovely shots. – GQ

Some horrible, horrible person Photoshop-ed an MTV.com news page that said Gabe Saporta from Cobra Starship died in a bus crash. I saw it! I was devastated for a few minutes. Don't make such jokes about my Gabe... - Idolator

I hope they were high when they made this: The Veronicas – those Australian identical twins, who are actually really cool and gay-friendly - really want a VMAs nomination, OK? - Buzzworthy

And I hope you, Ryan Seacrest, get lots and lots of sh*t for this picture. Thank god it wasn't lost. - TMZ

Tropic Thunder Clips And Trailer

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

Those of us who have been seeing the ads for Tropic Thunder and groaning at what looks to be another lame inside Hollywood joke for straight guys might be surprised to learn that:

A. It's actually quite funny; and

B. One of the central characters is gay

This second point in particular might come as a surprise because no one seems to have mentioned the fact anywhere, likely because it's a bit of a late-story twist and there's lots of other things going on to discuss. But if you're curious to hear more about which character is gay and how it's handled, check out our review over on the main page. If you'd rather not be spoiled, you can check out these clips and trailer instead!

Watch Britney Spears VMAs 2008 Promos With Russell Brand

Time for a double-dose of crazy... Believe it or not, though, the kookiest moment of this promo does not come from the stand-up comedian/former heroin addict - just wait for Britney's cackle! It's just too bad Russell doesn't bring up Britney's '07 VMAs "performance"; everyone else was thinking about that, too, right? Could I call it the ... elephant in the room? Ha!

Now it's totally cool that some guy named Russell Brand is hosting the 2008 VMAs - the show airs September 7 at 9 p.m. - but shouldn't Britney and MTV awards shows still be steering clear of each other at this point? Just hearing the words "Britney" and "VMAs" together still causes a violent reaction in me...

Watch the second promo after the jump...

This week almost every genre has something to offer music fans. Here's a few selections for your consideration.

Janelle Monáe Metropolis: The Chase Suite (Bad Boy/Wondaland Arts Society/Atlantic)
