Can Grey's Anatomy Get Any More Gay?

-- Dorothy Snarker from AfterEllen.com

Heck, they're going to have to change the name to Gay's Anatomy if they keep this up. Aussie actress Melissa George is in final negotiations to star as the newest bisexual cast member on Grey's Anatomy. According to The Ausiello Files, George would play a new intern with an “open mind toward sexuality.”

The report also claims that George is “being groomed as a potential love interest for one of Grey's other two burgeoning bis, Callie (Sara Ramirez) or Erica (Brooke Smith).” Wait, what? Callica fans the world over are no doubt picking up the nearest heavy object and chucking it at their screens in protest.

While I love the idea of another queer character on Grey's, why make her the spoiler between Callie and Erica? Can't we have one happy, stable, non-pregnant female gay couple on television? Look Shonda Rhimes, if you won't do it for me then at least do it for the poor couple nicknamers out there who will have to work overtime after already giving us Callica. Have you no mercy?

If George looks familiar but you can't quite place her, imagine her kicking Jennifer Garner's ass as she did as double agent Lauren Reed on the third season of Alias. She has also squared off against vampires in the horror flick 30 Days of Night and spent time on the couch for the HBO psychotherapy drama In Treatment.

While there is no word yet on Melissa's character's name (sorry, nicknamers, no head start for you), some detail has come up about her role. Apparently she was originally slated just to be a patient, but Shonda liked the actress so much she changed her role to give it “more long-term potential.”

Melissa joins a slew of casting news on the show including the hiring of The L Word's Janina Gavankar and newcomer Brandon Scott as new interns, plus the announcement of Battlestar Galactica's Mary McDonnell appearance as a doctor for a multi-episode arc later in the season.

So, are you excited about more gay on Grey's? Do you like the idea of an all-female love triangle at Seattle Grace, or are you already planning you “Save Callica” petition as we speak? Discuss.

I love that the Callica relationship is heading towards the usual Grey's on-again-off-again complexity. That's why it's a drama. Stuff happens that creates conflict. Have you seen Bryn Christopher Grey's music video, by the way? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTBgyEE3Hmw
No one lives fairytail lives. To me that's what makes the show interesting.
