Interview with True Blood & Six Feet Under Creator Alan Ball

Fang-bangers, suck on this! It’s a vloggy chat (below) with the Oscar-winner behind Six Feet Under and American Beauty, Alan Ball. He’s the gay TV magnate who’s bringing you hot pansexual vampire action this weekend on HBO as his new series True Blood debuts. (It’s about time... I’ve been missing my Sunday-night HBO must-watch stuff.).

I chatted up Mr. Ball earlier this summer in P’town at their big sunny Provincetown Film Festival. His movie Towelhead screened (it comes out next week, Friday September 12), and he was there to talk it up. But we dished about True Blood, the sexuality within Towelhead (about a 13-year-old Lebanese-American girl coming in to her own, with some molesty help from neighbor Aaron Eckhart—yikes!), making gay movies and I had to ask about some Six Feet Under stuff. (I still miss Brenda!)

Have a look at the interview, and give True Blood a look this Sunday. I’ve seen the first two episodes. It's set in a present-day world where vampires are “out of the coffin” and fighting for a Vampire Rights Amendment (gay-analogous much?), and lucky for us one telepathic Louisiana waitress, Anna Paquin, is all about making new vampire friends.

Ball and his True Blood crew play with all the good vampire folklore (they avoid sunlight, they gotta be invited into your home), and take it a notch higher. Like, vampires are horned-up shagging machines, and if humans drink vampire blood it’s like chugging 40 Red Bulls and 25 V8s at once. Powerful!!! And humans who chase vampires are called “fangbangers!” Har!
