NewNowNext NOISE Interview: Spencer Product
DJ/producer/party host/electro-magnate/shootist Spencer Product. His first compilation CD, "...Product," is out now.
If you've been out anywhere cool in the last eight or so years in New York City, then the name Spencer Product oughtta be a familiar one. He's the man who, along with legendary DJ Larry Tee, launched the whole Electroclash movement and the freaky/fashionable, influential/arty Williamsburg music scene back in 2001. The club Berliniamsburg played a big role in launching folks like the Scissor Sisters, Fischerspooner and Avenue D, and was a haven for nightlife style-mongers, music mavens and club kids. Justin Bond, Andy Bell, Naomi Campbell--freakin' anybody who was anybody in after-dark NYC trolled through its sweaty envirions.
And ever since, whether hosting club nights around NYC (he presently rocks the Lower East Side every Friday night with Ruff Club at the Annex), or helming gigs for fashion folks like Hedi Slimane or Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney or Anna Sui (or providing soundtracks for their runway shows), Product has been a hot man on the cusp of all things cool.

I went to his Soho apartment to chat him up about his new compilation CD, ...Product -- a buzzy mix of sounds from bands like Bloc Party, Cut Copy, Matt & Kim and A.R.E. Weapons, as well as up-and-comers you haven't heard of yet. We also chatted about parties, New York, fashion and TV. Spencer's super-nice, too. Check out the interview above!
This is Spencer's new CD. Buy it!
A glance back at flyers from two of Spencer's more legendary NYC parties, Club Badd and Berliniamsburg.
And a flyer for his current killer weekly nightlife stomping ground, Ruff Club, Fridays at The Annex.
And a nice moody pic of Spencer... Get some Product in your life, now!
