VMAs: Highlights/Lowlights

Brit_3

I, too, would like to thank God, my beautiful family and my fans. *Ahem* Now that the VMAs are over and done with, I'm left to question: Where was the mayhem that was promised unto us? Is MTV under the care of a conservatorship, as well? The VMAs this year were a little too tame, if you ask me.

Does anyone remember the good old days when Eminem and Moby were feuding? Or even last year, when Tommy Lee and Kid Rock exchanged knuckle sandwiches? How 'bout when Courtney Love threw her compact at Madonna? Anyone? Not this year! The closest we got to a catfight was when Jordin Sparks (incorrectly) shot back at Russell Brand for taking jabs at the virtuous, pious brothers named Jonas: They're called purity rings, Jordin. Promise rings are what teens give their sweethearts in lieu of engagement rings so that they can lose their, uh, purity.

Read more highlights/lowlights after the jump, including a look at this year's doppelgangers.

Highlights:

Paramore
Paramore's Hayley Williams shows us she has the pipes and the 'tude to stick around for a while.
Riri_2
Rihanna's disturbing performance seems to channel "Thriller."
Xtina
Christina's re-invention into a super heroine (how about the name Tina Electronica as an alter-ego?)

Lowlights:

Petey
Pete Wentz' nod to MJ and Lisa Marie's mucho awkward kiss from yesteryear.  You don't usually want to reference sham marriages when talking about your own, buddy boy.

Doppelgangers were everywhere last night. Here's a look at three lookalikes that stood out from the rest, for better or worse.

450x250_ciaramarsattacks1
Ciara's "Mars Attacks" hair-don't.
400x500_shiapeewee
Is Shia LaBeouf going to play Pee Wee Herman in a new film? From the looks of it...
450x25_billkaulitzbjork2
Tokio Hotel's Bill Kaulitz is a spitting image of fellow wild child Bjork.

This year's VMA's were fun & good for Brit-brit! The Paramount backlot was fun (minus Jonas) and way easier to understand than last year's Las Vegas debacle. I caught this hysterical t-shirt in the audience after I watched it again this morning https://www.cafepress.com/nanoo3_theclap

You were spot on Mr. Fish. But can we Puh-lease mention the tragedy that was Russel Brand. Sorry MTV, the guy was great in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but loads of political humor coming from a Brit is just awkward and hollow. His constant "jokes" about enlightenment and krisna were funny....in the commercial. Brand recycled the tired lines over and over. Wackness. What happened to MTV, man?

Eli

I think Lady Gagas people need to urgently talk to Christinas people.

Somebody get Mr. Fish a column! He is dead on and hysterical.
