Well Smack My Asp! Hugh Jackman May Star in New Musical About ... Cleopatra?
-- snicks from AfterElton.com
Gay fave Hugh Jackman has made some ... interesting career choices, some of which turn out to be triumphant (The Boy from Oz), and some less so (Viva Laughlin). However, one of his possible upcoming projects takes the cake when it comes to sheer "HUH?"-ness.
Catherine Zeta-Jones may return to the genre that brought her the most acclaim in a new big-screen musical (her first, Chicago, won her the Oscar) based on the life of Cleopatra, to be directed by the eclectic Steven Soderbergh:
"For his next directing effort, Steven Soderbergh is plotting a 3-D live-action rock ānā roll musical about Cleopatra. He is courting Catherine Zeta-Jones to play the Egyptian queen and Hugh Jackman to play her lover, Marc Antony."
Okay, let's examine this closely. A "3-D live-action rock ānā roll musical about Cleopatra". Does anyone else have a feeling that Soderbergh chooses the concepts of his films by playing Mad Libs?
This has the makings for either a piece of cinematic genius, or a debacle the likes we haven't seen since Cop Rock. What do you think?
