Making music together: Tilda Swinton & Patrick Wolf

-- Jamie Murnane from AfterEllen.com

She may not have gotten a Golden Globe nod for her roles in Burn After Reading or The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, but Tilda Swinton is trying her hand at something new. The Academy Award-winning British actress known for her androgynous look and red-carpet pantsuits (she was voted one of Vanity Fair's best dressed women of 2007) will be exploring her musical side this year.

Swinton is teaming up with bisexual singer-songwriter Patrick Wolf for his new album, Battle, to be released this spring on his label, Bloody Chamber Music. Swinton will provide spoken word to four of the tracks, acting as a "voice of hope."

It might seem random, but apparently Wolf is a big fan of Swinton and, according to Pitchfork, slipped her a CD with a note at the premiere of her film Julia last year.

In a press release about the collaboration, Swinton said:

My feeling is that we almost certainly come from the same planet: kith and kin. His music feels like the unexpressed soundtrack of a great film I want to see — and try to catch every night before I go to sleep. It's a lovely thing to be a part of that magical landscape.

Wolf and Swinton actually seem like a perfect match. They're both quite eccentric in their chosen mediums, and Swinton's speaking voice will surely sound complimentary to Wolf's arty indie pop orchestrations. (He plays multiple instruments, including the ukulele, harmonium and clavichord.)

Are you into the idea of Tilda Swinton as a "voice of hope"?

I am so exciting about this collaboration. They also kind of have this same interesting look about each other. Love Patrick Wolf and Tilda Swinton
