Best Road Movies Ever? What About Thelma, Louise, Brad & Pee Wee?

Wha...? Men don't love Thelma & Louise?

The fashionable men over at Men.Style.com, the online home of Details and GQ (the latter with its now-fussed-over pics of Bruno playing football with high-school lads) have another feature up on their site that caught my eye. They're picking the 10 Best Road Movies Ever. And surprise, the results are dude-centric so far.

I can't argue with classics like Easy Rider, National Lampoon's Vacation (a big fave of mine) or the amazing Badlands (Sissy Spacek!). But Sideways? Zzzzz... And they're missing some serious estrogen and homo-filled road flicks in there. C'mon men, loosen up!

Here are some they're missing...

Thelma & Louise is only one of the best road movies in the entire world. Sweet yet take-charge women who've had it. In a convertible. With guns. And some amped-up feminist ass-kicking.

Plus, amazing performances by Susan Sarandon, Geena Davis, Harvey Keitel and this one guy who made a big impact...

More great road flicks -- including some gays with guns -- after the jump.

I'm not surprised the Men.Style guys missed Boys on the Side. It is pretty chick-film-tastic. Which is why is rules... Hello!??

Yes, before she sold pot, Mary Louise Parker ran a carpool with Whoopi & Drew. Who knew?

Gays like to take road trips, too. Especially if a snarky fag-hag is along, and there's a big party celebrating Stevie Nicks at the end of the road. Seen Gypsy 83? If you haven't, you really, really, really should. It's genius. And Karen Black even shows up.

White-wing doves Kett Turton and Sara Rue. Stand back, children!

For gays with guns, and early '90s hairdos, it doesn't get better than the messy New Queer Cinema classic, The Living End, in which two HIV-positive dudes go on a horny tirade across the Southern California landscape. It's earnest and very ACT-UP and sexy/grumpy/petulant. A Gregg Araki classic.

Craig Gilmore and Mike Dytri go balls out (more or less) in The Living End.

For full-on fabulousness, can anything really ever top Priscilla Queen of the Desert?

It's got drag queens, trannies, hot Aussies, a fierce soundtrack (Thank you, Charlene!), a woman shooting ping-pong balls out of her hoo-hah and an ABBA turd. Brilliance!

If your road ride isn't this raging, you might wanna just pull over, kids.

And finally, maybe the best ever road movie. Ever.

350x480_pee-wees-big-advent

Pee Wee's Big Adventure just plain rules. "There's no basement in the Alamo!!!!?? Hahahahahahah..." Evil Francis. Dottie. Singing Texans. "Au revoir, Simone!" Watching Pee Wee Herman at the top of his game is a unparalleled pleasure. Only the Pee Wee's Playhouse Christmas Special may surpass this film in it's exuberant daffy glory.

You gonna argue with Large Marge? I thought not.

Anyway, if you're road-tripping this holiday weekend, be careful. Have fun! Don't pick up hitch-hikers. Or do, if they're hot and dangerous and that sort of thing turns you on... (So retro of you.)

And above all: DRIVE SAFE!
