It's Lady Gaga's world; we just live in it. In the last weeks, she's claimed to be a hermaphrodite, and shocked and delighted audiences in Israel (talking fondly of Israeli men's endowments -- and hummus!), and -- move over Kanye -- she's making headlines thanks to yet another high-profile collaboration.
Turns out, Lady Gaga is now all about Michael Bolton! Yep, the gravelly-voice power ballad champ from the 90s is the latest artist to get some help from the Lady Gaga school of musical madness. Evidently Gaga helped Bolton with some music on his forthcoming album, One World One Love, collaborating on the tune "Murder My Heart." Word has it that Gaga helped pen the song, and may be heard singing backup on the track. The new Bolton album is due Sept 21st.
Hotness. Now I all need to hear is some genius-ness about a Gaga/Celine Dion duet. Please. Pretty please!???
NewNowNext Noise: Video Interview with DJ Saratonin!
-- By Becca Roth
Not so long ago, I met up with Sarah Alexander, better known as DJ Saratonin, on Tuesday at a deli on NYC's Lower East Side, right before her set at the nearby club, The Delancey.
Originally an aspiring party promoter, Saratonin discovered DJing about 10years ago, and has never looked back. She’s based in California, but travels the country to play for mostly lesbian groups, and we were lucky to catch up with her while she was in New York.
You can catch DJ Saratonin on the Sweet Caribbean cruise (November 2009), which provides travel-happy lesbians with back to back entertainment and celebrity guests. You can also catch her at the Club Skirts Dinah Shore Weekend in March, which is the largest lesbian event in the world. She is also the resident DJ at Truck Stop, which has been featured on Logo’s Gimme Sugar. Also check her out on her MySpace and then befriend/follow her own DJ Saratonin website.
Heidi unveils special guest Rebecca Romijn and her buns in the oven.
Episode 2: Expecting
--by Eric Walter
This week, Project Runway throws a curve, and it's a big one. The designers are given the task of creating a chic, form-fitting look for gorgeous celebrity guest Rebecca Romijn — and her gorgeous baby bump!
Er, babies bump. She's having twins.
Not surprisingly, the three best designs are created by women and the three worst are designed by men — gay men, no less. Ouch. It's not a shining moment for our boys.
Strapping a pillow to those models' bellies is like a garter snake
swallowing an ostrich egg, but they gamely strap on the pregnancy
prosthetics and march down the runway.
Naked Male Models Make V Magazine's September Issue Festive! Have a Look!
Wild Things... I think I love you.
Hey fashionistas! And those of you who just enjoy a bit of man-skin! V Magazine, that big glossy oversized and rather heavy fashion mag has some nice naked scruffy lads in their big September issues. It's a shoot by Mario Testino, and the boys are used as accessories for nice gal models Carmen Kass and Anne V.
The actual clothes in the shoot present "a neo-hippie, anything-goes approach to dressing with furs, fringe, and everything animal-print." Great. But you're probably not noticing them. Bring on the pale, wrangly pretty guys!
Sorry, but the boys' own wild things are discreetly obscured... Still, enjoy a few more peeks after the jump.
Jemina Pearl's "I Hate People" Duet with Iggy Pop! Grumpy Is the New Black? Listen!
Jemina Pearl was the frontwoman of the now-disbanded band Be Your Own Pet (Pitchfork aptly described her as "sh*t-kicking"), and she's got a nice, feral solo album called Break It Up coming on October 6th. And yes, she's hot.
Her sound? Think old-school crunchy girl-pop wrung through a ratty Misfits T-shirt by the girls of Shonen Knife at a Pixies show, and that's kinda of what it might sound like. Get a quick listen to her genius grumpfest duet with Iggy Pop called "I Hate People" below (click thru to hear the whole tune). It's my new "it's the end of summer, so piss off!" song, sung as I throw an ice cream cone at someone.
Is Thunderheist's "Jerk It" the Ultimate Sexiest Video? Watch, Discuss & Vote.
The Logo folks have a contest running now wherein you can vote for your pick of the "Ultimate Sexiest Videos." There are foxy folks in the running (Colton Ford, Beyonce, the Pussycat Dolls) and then there are the kids from Thunderheist.
Is the video for "Jerk It" (posted above) sexy? Or just insane? Keep watching it and you'll see what I mean... "Dust it off and jerk it?" Cock-a-doodle-doo!???
Video: Miley Cyrus' "Party in the USA" Gets a Beachy Gay Fan Video!
"Party in the FIP": Boys just wanna have fun...
God bless the internets; and the gays! When they join forces, it's a party! Toss in Miley Cyrus' psychotically infectious summer hit "Party in the USA" and it gets serious.
Specifically, there's a certain gay homemade video on YouTube getting lots of play these days. Here's what's what: A little gang of NYC gay-boy friends shot a video on Fire Island to commemorate their beachy summer holiday. They used Miley's tune as the soundtrack and -- BOING! -- suddenly Perez Hilton's on it, Advocate.com's writing about it, and wee miss Cyrus herself tweeted about how she's "obsessed" with it!
Crazy! Gay! Miley! Ahhhh, you gotta love the summer. Click through to watch the video!
MTV's 2009 VMAs are coming on Sunday, Sept. 13th. And here's big Broadway-tributing promo video with Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Ne-Yo, Russel Brand and Cobra Starship (and yes, a pop-up appearance by Leighton Meester) going all West Side Story to celebrate.
Can we just nominate the Vogue Evoution children for sainthood? They're fierce, amazingly talented dancers, bringing gay-realness and educating the masses each week on America's Best Dance Crew. And they're just so darn cool and sweet and nice! (Via Remote Control.)
Enough with the gushing. Watch the cute video above. Love, love, love...
A trio of muscle-bears (aka Paul, Jonny & Fergus) welcome you to the set of "Bear City."
About a week ago I got to visit the set of a very cute, very gay and very burly movie being shot right now in NYC: BearCity! Maybe you can guess from the title, but the film looks to be a charming/funny romantic-ish comedy about a boy who moves to NYC, gets a crush on a bear, falls into the bear scene and may (or may not) find true love, burly-man-style!
The film is directed by Doug Langway, and was cowritten by Langway and Lawrence Ferber. I’ve known Lawrence as a journalist forever, but he’s also a savvy screenwriter/filmmaker.
Anyway, I spent most of a recent Friday on Christopher Street in the West Village in the cute side street (Weehawken Place) next to The Ramrod (formerly known as The Dugout). The scene was a big moment in the film, and the whole cast was on hand (as were many bearish extras).
Screenwriter Lawrence Ferber and "BearCity" cutie Will Bethencourt. Friendliest set ever!
Playing one of the lead bears (think hunky and bearded, moreso than hefty) is Gerald McCullouch, who you may know from CSI. He’s been in several TV, film and stage projects, but I had no idea he was openly gay. Nice!!!
Anyway, after the jump, check my pics from the set and get a bit of my conversation with the studly and smart McCullouch. Go Bears!
Awwwww... As if Grizzly Bear's music wasn't sweet and homo-flavored enough (frontman Ed Droste is a nice gay), video-meister Gabe Askew has made his own awesome, artful video for the band's tune "Two Weeks." Askew's straight, but the video's gay, animated and just fab. (Via AfterElton & Towleroad)
Tim Gunn meets the designers on a familiar Hollywood location: the Emmys red carpet. Thank goodness Kathy Griffin is nowhere to be found!
—by Eric Walter
Episode 1: Project Runway is
Dead. Long live Project Runway!
After a year of silence and a quick, muted summertime promotion, Project Runway jumped back into the spotlight last night with the long-awaited Season Six premiere.
Fans might have worried about the series’ fate on a network made infamous by titles such as "Crimes of Passion: She Woke Up Pregnant," "Mother, May I Sleep With Danger," and "Why I Wore Lipstick To My Mastectomy."
As RuPaul might say, "Don’t f*&# it up, Lifetime."
But you can put your fears to rest. Tim and Heidi and Michael and Nina (a little softened – Marie Clare is treating her well) seem to have weathered the cross-continental risks just fine. It’s the same old Runway – literally.
A familiar, heart-stopping (for them), heart-warming (for us) sight.
The Los Angeles sound stage is an exact copy of the old New York set. The logo is the same. The lighting is the same. The catch-phrases are the same.
They even kept fabric supplier Mood, which reportedly opened a temporary satellite location just for the show.
Dolly Parton is a goddess. There's really nothing else to say. She's perfection and should never change. If you've got a problem, though, she wants you to "Change It". Check out this video from the 9 to 5 musical. Wow, the talking part at the beginning, the leather outfit, the attempt at playing the guitar with gigantic nails. I'm seriously an orthodox Partonite and need to go to Dolly church pronto.
This Week In Fabulous 8/21: Eric Dane, Miss Piggy, Marc Jacobs & Project Runway Galore!
Anderson Cooper who? Tim Gunn is the original silver fox!
-- By Cory Stottlemyer
For this week's edition of "This Week In Fabulous," there's plenty of fabulous in the form of delusional reality stars, celebrities who can't keep track of their home videos, and fashion! Now let's get started!
5. Heidi Montag will NOT be lip-syncing at the Miss Universe Pageant!
I wish Heidi would stop trying to be sexy. It's like watching a blow-up doll prance around and blow kisses.
This should be HILARIOUS. Heidi Montag will apparently be singing live at this Sunday's Miss Universe Pageant. Either I will want to stab my ear drums out, or I will laugh so hard I will stop breathing. I bet both will happen.
Eric Dane sexiness and fashion fabulousness after the jump!
The kids over at VH1 have gone stark raving Divas mad these days. They're gearing up for their big VH1 Divas Live event on Sept 17th, which will see a new generation of divas (Kelly Clarkson, Adele, Leona Lewis and yes, Miley Cyrus) taking the stage to try and hold their own against past legends like Mariah, Whitney & Diana Ross. Good luck, kids!
Their Divas site is full of amazing vintage diva footage and killer videos. But it doesn't have this exclusive RuPaul clip above. We snagged this one special, just for you!
And to amuse yourself, you can go vote for your favorite diva videos ever, and there are some freaked-out gems in the running: "Kiss Me Deadly" from Lita Ford; "I'll Be Your Shelter" from Taylor Dayne; and even some Robyn, Reba McEntire and Santogold in there. Crrrraaaazy!
More exclusive diva posts are coming... Stay tuned!
Every year or so, the Logo folks want to get your take on what's the sexiest video ever? This year is no exception, and right now they want your vote! A slew of recent clips are up for voting for The Click List: Ultimate Sexiest Videos Ever, and the candidates are fun mix of gay (Colton Ford, Yehonathan, RuPaul, Von Iva, Uh Huh Her), gay-ish (Lady Gaga) and not-gay but fierce (Beyonce, Keri Hilson, Britney).
You need to go vote now. To get primed, enjoy the meaty goodness that is Colton Ford (above) and his mesh-tastic take on R.E.M. And below, celebrate the never-ending glam that has become Lady Gaga.
After the jump, I've included Israeli pop hottie Yehonathan for good measure.
The winners will be revealed on Logo over Labor Day weekend, which is soon. Stay tuned!
Project Runway's All Stars Get Their Fill of Santino Rice
Rice Queen: Santino stirs it up! Bravo!
Has all of his time away from TV turned Tim Gunn into a big nervous nellie??? It sort of sounds that way. AfterElton.com has a fun post up about tomorrow night's big special Project Runway All-Stars special (8pm ET), which brings back a bunch of the best from past seasons of PR to compete in a one-off design throwdown.
They rounded up a great group -- Chris March, Sweet P, Jeffrey Sebelia, Korto, Uli, Daniel Vosovic, Michael Knight (sorry, no Laura Bennett or Christian Siriano). But evidently the big troublemaker in the show is (surprise) Santino Rice! In fact, Tim Gunn is quoted (practically hyperventilating) saying things like "I was as close to a psychotic breakdown as I’ve ever been."
Have you missed these fashion messes?
Why the drama? Blame Santino! "I don’t want to give him anymore press," said Gunn. "But that Santino Rice -- I was ready to take a cyanide capsule. I mean, he just sucks all the air out of a room." Oh lordy, Tim. Sounds like great TV to me!
Get more of Tim's kvetching on AfterElton.com. Strangely, none of the folks working on RuPaul's Drag Race have complained about Santino's histrionics. Maybe Tim should have called in Shannel to put Santino in his place. Lord knows she would have welcomed the opportunity.
Exclusive Interview: Aimee Allen Talks Music, Survival, and How She Only Has Gay Friends!
--By Cory Stottlemyer
Aimee Allen recently stopped by our offices and I had the opportunity to sit down and chat with her about what's going on in her life. The singer, whose song "On Vacation" has been gaining popularity on VH1, opened up about how she has only gay friends, her brother's coming out, and how all the gay men in her life lament her shoe choices (I thought her Converse were cute! Even I know how painful it is to wear heels in New York!).
The spunky artist even told us about the time last summer when she was assaulted by a gang and left for dead. She's a fighter, though, and has since bounced back to write a new album, A Little Happiness. In the interview you can see Aimee doing an acoustic performance of "On Vacation," in between interview bits! Then watch the song's music video below!
Those smart folks at GLSEN (the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, which is the big national education group focused on ensuring safe schools for all students) have a clever new print-PSA campaign out to educate and curb the use of anti-gay slang among youth. It's part of their Think B4 You Speak initiative. (They also did the TV ads with Wanda Sykes and Hilary Duff a while back.)
I saw this reported on Wired.com, who dug the "Gamer Guy" version of the PSA above. But after the jump, you'll see "jock" and "cheerleader" versions, too. Nice work, GLSEN!
Check out more images and info from the campaign after the jump!
The all-gay dance gang on America's Best Dance Crew, Vogue Evolution, turned it out again this past Sunday night. The evening was a big Beyonce challenge, as all the crews had to perform to a Beyonce tune incorporating moves from her videos--as instructed by Miss B herself.
And yes, Vogue Evolution brought it and delivered an African-dance-flavored serving of "Deja Vu," which had the crowd freaking out and had Lil' Mama on her feet. They continued on to the next level, naturally. Watch the whole episode above. VE shows up around 25:00 minutes in.
George Michael Collides with Truck; Taken In for Possible DUI, then Released. Oy!
George Michael: Road Hazard?
Maybe George Michael should just hire a driver. Turns out the pop star, who's been known to have problems staying coherent behind the wheel was in an accident this past weekend, when his Land Rover collided with a lorry (that's British for truck) in the Berkshire region of England.
Michael was then arrested for suspicion of "driving under the influence" following the incident. A witness told the British newspaper The Sun that the singer "must have been doing 100mph. When he got out he couldn't walk straight." However, after a couple of hours, Michael was released without charge.
Since the incident, Michael has spoken out saying he was "stone cold sober" and that this latest mess is a big misunderstanding. Let's hope so! Michael also spoke to his fans who might be feeling a bit of deja vu, given his dodgy driving/DUI record: "I don't want my fans or my family worried by what they are reading all over again."
Michael was banned for driving for two years back in 2007 after he was convicted of driving while unfit as a result of drug use. And last fall, Michael was arrested in a public toilet for drug possession.
To remember how fun GM can be when not driving or being arrested, check out this clip of him serving up a surprise performance with Beyonce earlier this summer in London. It's an "If I Were a Boy" duet!
Can I suggest that everything shot in NYC from now on be West Side Story-themed? Everything is better when it's got hot retro-choreography and tight jeans.
View the actual promo above, and a behind-the-scenes chat with cute Starshippers Gabe and Ryalnd below.
This Week In Fabulous 8/14: Babs, Britney, Teensy Top Models & One Hot Tatum
Tyra Banks is excited to read all about what was fabulous this week!
It's here once again! This Week In Fabulous is back, and this week we're going to talk about everything from Top Models, to Barbra Streisand, to Channing Tatum's days as a stripper!
5. Barbra Streisand releases artwork for upcoming album.
Barbra Streisand has released the album artwork for her upcoming jazz album, "Love Is The Answer," and she's look quite exquisite! Sure, this picture is probably photoshopped to high hell, but who cares, it's Babs! She can do whatever she wants!
Channing Tatum stripping, new Britney Spears singles, and tiny Top Models after the jump!
Lady Gaga Celebrates Halloween Early in Out Magazine! See the Pics!
Bloody Fabulous: Gaga in OUT Magazine. Slurp!
The new, September issue of OUT Magazine features gay icon newbie Lady Gaga in a fiercely insane/spooky Ellen von Unwerth photo shoot... It's hard to realize that this time last year, Mizz G was still doing shows in gay bars (she even performed at an underwear party on Fire Island), right? Now she's global!
And maybe it's a True Blood thing, or it's just Gaga's own Goth tendencies, but the photo shoot is total b-movie retro horror fabulousness. And racy, too!
After the jump, see more pics... Summer just got a bit scary, y'all!!!
A Visit to The Wendy Williams Show: Wigs, Ab-Rockets & Hot Messes!
Ready, eager and hungry for some Wendy... Bring her out! Let's do this!
Today's a slow post day, mainly because this morning was all about a visit to a taping of The Wendy Williams Show. Evidently, the delightful, gigantic, bewigged and fabulously outspoken hostess has already claimed the #1 talk show spot in her 10am time slot. Woo-hoo! Not sure if that's just in NYC or what, but... Go Wendy!
The show was a blast to attend. Lots of dancing -- before the show, during commercial breaks -- and lots of Wendy. During all the breaks she pretty much mingled with the audience, even fixed their hair, gave out treats, followed up with all the folks who had participated in the "Ask Wendy" segments... Basically, she seemed crazy-nice and to really enjoy her work and hamming it up with the crowd. Super-accessible and funny; just like we like her!
Queen of all gays, Ms. Kathy Griffin, has had a busy week already. Carousing with Levi Johnston at the Teen Choice Awards, hosting the Joan Rivers Roast, and then subbing as a stand-in host for Larry King Live (featuring guests Levi Johnston and Joan Rivers -- Ayyyy!).
But somehow the gays at AfterElton also grabbed Ms. G for a fun, quick interview which you need to read. My favorite exchange may be when AfterElton asks her about her forthcoming autobiography...
AfterElton: What's the most shocking thing in the book, which we're totally going to review. KG: This is so sick. You're gonna hurl. I decided to print my plastic surgery post-op photos, which are worse than crime scene photos. They're so disgusting that after a while they just became funny. So make sure you take some Tums before you look at them, because you're not going to feel well. I hope you like the book.
Rufus Wainwright's Got a New Concert DVD! Get Ready to Meet Him in "Milwaukee!!!"
Laverne & Shirley would be so proud! Rufus Wainwright, that insanely talented songsmith who's been crafting gorgeously intricate and melodic music for a decade now (when he's not been channeling Judy Garland on stages around the planet) has a new concert DVD on the way, shot in Milwaukee, of all places.
The new release, breathlessly titled Milwaukee at Last!!!, features Wainwright performing songs from his entire catalog; there are a lot of numbers from Release the Stars (his most recent full-on original album from 2007, as well as the Rufus classics you love from Want One and Two, and some fun covers. And yes, there's a Judy tune or two (and Rufus in drag!) in there, too. It's out in September.
Much more -- including some dish from Rufus himself, and links to watch sneak peeks from the DVD -- after the jump!
Hot QB Tom Brady Shows Us His Details: Nice New Pics!
Big September issues of fashion mags are coming, which means a 9,397-page issue of Vogue (and that's during this recession; usually the thing has 37,842 pages!) and also nice big issues of the men's fashon mags.
Football season is coming, too... So Details is celebrating this sporty occasion and the oncoming return of flannel-wearing season with their September issue. Yep, they've got big hot man-pony (and Gisele-accessory) Tom Brady on the cover. He looks dreamy, if a bit cardboard somehow... Not that I'm complaining.
More pics after the jump! Touchdown! Pics via NY Post PopWrap.
Vogue Evolution: Read the Fierce AfterElton Interview!
The children of Vogue Evolution are bringing it to ABDC.
A new season of the scorchingly fun MTV dance competition show, America's Best Dance Crew has begun, and I gotta say I've got a special place in my heart for Vogue Evolution, the show's first-ever all-gay dance posse.
It's not just that these children are family and they're from NYC (like me!), it's also that they've got hearts as big as anything, and they're on a mission to inspire other gay kids and show the world how artful voguing truly is.
Read the new interview up on AfterElton and you'll be impressed, too.
Mika News: Album Name Change, Video Contest and a Hot "We Are Golden" Remix
Mika's got a hot Mirwais remix, a new album title, a PopLab premiere this Wednesday and a contest running. Yeeesh!
That cheeky Mika is busy! First, last week or so he spread his big hot new "We Are Golden" video all over the web (look for it this Wednesday night, August 12th at midnight on Logo's hot NewNowNext PopLab video show). And in the clip, he's bouncing around, showing off his hot/skinny torso wearing nothing but lil' shorts and a daffy smile.
Now we can report that...
A) Mika's changed the name of his new album. Instead of calling it We Are Golden (like the first single) it's being called The Boy Who Knew Too Much. And yep, I like the new one better. It's got more of that retro vibe we expect from him, eh?
B) Mika's hosting a big fat contest where you can make your own "We Are Golden" video, and 5 winners will get a chance to meet Mika at a concert, and one big winner wins something called "50,000 Mika's Magic Numbers" points. Whatever that means.
Carnie says: "Here come the brides! And the gay husbands too, please!"
If ya didn't know, this past spring the Game Show Network cooked up a new version of the doofy TV classic, The Newlywed Game. Hosted by Carnie Wilson, it revisited the joy you can experience watching newly hitched yahoos answer embarrassing questions about each other on TV. (The old, campy version from te 1970s hosted by Bob Eubanks was a gawdy gem.)
They're now gearing up for season 2 of the new version and lo and behold -- they want gay couples to join in on the fun/embarrassment. Maybe it's because the show is sponsored by eHarmony.com, who got sued not so long ago for not allowing same-sex couples to use their matchmaking site to hook up. Whatevs. I'm thrilled that gays and lesbian marrieds can now be forced to answer mortifying questions about their new mates (and their sex lives) on TV. Let the blushing, bickering and recriminations begin!
But better yet, you know that when couples on The Newlywed Game get answers right, they always smooch to celebrate. Will the Game Show Network show us gays in our celebratory lip-locked glory? They sure better! Mwahhh!
Check Out Meryl Streep Showing Off Her Superb Talents! Accents Galore!
If you ever needed proof that Meryl Streep is the most talented and amazing person to ever exist, check out this video Slate magazine compiled. In anticipation of her spot on portrayal of Julia Child in Julie & Julia, Slate made this video showing Streep speak in about 50 billion different accents. It's really nothing short of amazing. Check it out above!
Vogue Evolution's Leiomy Talks About Being Transgender with MTV's Remote Control Blog
Leiomy is planning on bringing the fierceness to the upcoming season of America's Best Dance Crew!
Leiomy, one of the fierce members of the dance crew Vogue Evolution, talks about being transgender with MTV's Remote Control Blog. She talks about her family and who she dates.
That's all totally fabulous; big props to her. But let's have some dancing! I definitely can't wait to see her in action!!! I've only seen a short clip of Vogue Evolution dancing so far, and let me tell you, they are a force to be reckoned with. Can't wait for the next season of America's Best Dance Crew to premier this Sunday night at 9 pm ET!
This Week In Fabulous 8/7: Kissing Cops, the B-52s, and Hugh Jackman Being Fabulous!
Grrrrr? Nice to know there's a song and dance man behind that waxen scowl.
--by Cory Stottlemyer
It's once again time for "This Week In Fabulous," where I tell you all about everything that happened in the past 7 days that was truly and utterly wonderful. Lots of beautiful men fill this post once again. Check it out below!
This one is for everyone who wants to get in touch with their inner child. A new Where the Wild Things Are trailer has come out and the movie looks fantastic! I'm really glad they decided not to use CGI to create the monsters...too fake looking for my taste. The movie looks incredible, so I'm sure that people of all ages will be flocking to the theaters to see this!
Read about gay cops, Brad Pitt, and Hugh Jackman after the jump!
Paula Abdul Gets the Big Gay Sketch Show Treatment
As we all know (sob!), Paula Abdul won't be back for another season of American Idol. And while that may seem like reason enough to cease functioning or going on hunger strike or taking other drastic measures, don't fret. Those cheeky kids at Logo's Big Gay Sketch Show have managed to milk some humor out of this dire occasion.
Actually, the above clip is a sneak peek at the upcoming Season 3 of the BGSS (due in early 2010), but the timing is perfect for this now, sooo... Here you go!
"Sex and the City 2" Auditions: Watch the Fierce and Delusional Explain Why They Deserve to Be in the Film!
A gay "Sex and the City?" These guys wanna make it happen...
--By Becca Roth
Hey, Sex and the City fans! Get ready to be reeeaaally jealous! If you weren’t clued in enough to hear about the open casting call for the next SATC film, you may have missed your only chance to chill with Carrie and the gang on the silver screen.
Over 5,000 fans lined up this past Tuesday in NYC for the chance to be cast as extras in the upcoming sequel, scheduled to begin shooting soon. No acting experience was required for the quick audition, which consisted of a mere walk-in and snapshot. The casting agency sought everything from fashionistas to gays and lesbians, from international clubgoers to professional soccer players (okaayyy...). There were definitely some delusional outliers that attended the call, but at least they were enthusiastic.
New Reba McEntire Album Coming Soon! Watch Her Talk About Her Love for Her "Impersonators!"
Country music darling Reba McEntire has a new album coming out later in the month! Titled "Keep On Loving You," the album will be dropping August 18, and I know there are probably tons of fans out there excited to hear the news. I've always had a soft spot for Reba and have watched her television show in the past (partly because it's set in Houston and that's where I'm from...but mostly because I find Reba adorable).
In the above video, listen to Reba dish about her love of New York, her fans, and her appreciation for her "impersonators." She even talks about taking a guy who impersonates her on tour with her! How can you not love her? Have a listen to her song "Strange" below!
"Julie & Julia" Is Cinematic Comfort Food; Here's Why You Should See It
Meryl as Julia, getting busy with some poultry. What's not to love????
Julie & Julia, the charming and fun film starring Meryl Streep as the legendary culinary guru Julia Child and Amy Adams as blogger Julie Powell hits theaters tomorrow. And if you like food, or just love the Food Network, and are a sucker for comfy, funny films set in 1950’s Paris, and contemporary NYC, you’ll love this movie.
Super quick backstory: In 2002, frustrated New Yorker Julie Powell, a foodie, started a blog wherein she’d chronicle her experience of cooking her way through Julia Child’s landmark cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking. That meant making 524 recipes in 365 days. Yikes! Julie & Julia follows this feat, and parallels it with how Child herself became a gourmande while living in Paris with her husband in post-World War II Paris.
As Child, Streep is a joy. She’s big (Child was 6’2” tall), blousy, exuberant and a thrill to watch. And as Powell, Adams keeps what could be a big whimper-fest (if you’ve seen trailers, you’ve seen a lot of damp-eyed moments wherein Adams looks mopey and mild) into a funny, if at times fragile, portrait of a frazzled woman who finds strength in cooking, and in her own determination.
But quickly (too late?), after the jump are 6 great reasons to see the flick...
Well this is good news. According to our friends at AfterElton, The new CW remake of 90s classic Melrose Place is going to have a "non-stereotypical gay character," played by hottie Victor Webster. You might think Victor looks familier; he's played one of the many conquests of Samantha on Sex and the City and is also a Playgirl cover model. Head over to AfterElton to check out tons of sexy and slightly NSFW pictures of the actor. The idea of a Melrose Place remake just got a little better.
Wow, Robbie Williams is looking good. Let's hope his new album is as good as his looks!
Cheeky former Take-That-studpuppy/British-singer Robbie Williams is coming out with a new album later this year! It'll be titled Reality Killed the Video Star, and be released November 10th. The album title is quite clever, I must admit, and definitely seems to be slightly true. While he's received some success over here in the States, I know that Robbie is insanely popular overseas. I'm guessing this new album will follow suit and fly off the shelves.
After the jump, a classic (if kind of bloody and fabulously twisted) Robbie video!
Robbie's always nearly cringe-inducing and madly fabulous "Rock DJ" video...
Paula, why are you leaving us? Who will make nonsensical and almost riddle-like remarks to the singers now?
It is with sad news that I must tell you that Paula Abdul is leaving American Idol for good. Apparently, a financial agreement couldn't be reached between Abdul and Idol producers. Abdul broke the news through her official Twitter feed.
I just want to know what the heck the Idol producers are thinking? Not only has Abdul been there from the beginning, but she's clearly the most entertaining part of the judging panel! I already miss seeing a slightly out of it Abdul slur out a critique while the other judges and singers try their best not to giggle. Watch the video below of Paula doing what she does best.
NewNowNext Noise Video: A Visit to Ladies Rock Camp in Brooklyn!
by Becca Roth
Hey jealous rock-star wannabes! I was lucky enough to stop by the Willie Mae Ladies Rock Camp July session in Brooklyn two weeks ago, and now I’m pretty much obsessed with it. Everything is explained in the video above, but basically this thrifty weekend-long stay-cation is a must for any female who’s ever dreamed of being in a band, or anyone who just wants to try something new for a weekend. No experience is necessary, and all of the tuition goes to help girls from low-income families attend the girls’ camp.
These 3 Rock Campers are smokin' in the grrrls room!
If you’re as obsessed with this as I am after watching the video, check out http://williemaerockcamp.org ASAP. There are still a few spots available for the August session, which starts in a few days.
The 3 who make up Jessica 6: clockwise from top left, Morgan, Nomi and Andrew. Cute!
Fans of the ubergayfabulous Hercules & Love Affair may be stoked to know that one of that group's frontwomen, the toweringly hot Nomi Ruiz (she of the melt-worthy vocals on "You Belong" and the very long legs) is now fronting another band/side-project called Jessica 6. The trio is filled out by bassist Andrew Raposo and keyboardist Morgan Wiley, also of H&LA. Such industrious kids...
Jessica 6 (named after a character in the camp/sci-fi classic Logan's Run) is pumping out thumpy, sexy, vogue-y dance music, and they've got a gig in NYC this Friday, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn at Coco 66. They're just back from 2 months of gigs in Europe, so chances are they've got some hot travel stories to share, too.
While I think it's a good list, I would have loved to see a couple other videos for each artist nominated. I would have rather seen Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi" and Britney's "Circus" videos nominated instead, but the videos that were chosen are close seconds. I'm guessing the award is either going to newcomer Gaga or Beyonce, who has yet to win Video of the Year. We'll just have to wait and see on September 13th who takes the Moon Man!

The Stars of "Taking Woodstock" Dish About the Movie!
--By Cory Stottlemyer
Taking Woodstock, the latest film from director Ang Lee, is a hilarious take on the behind the scenes action that went down during the famous 1969 music festival. I had the chance recently to attend a press junket for the film and listen to Ang Lee and several cast members talk about their experience making this hilarious movie.
Read more about the movie and hear what several of the cast members had to say about it after the jump!
Watch Chelsea Handler Give GLAAD a Piece of Her Mind!
Funny lady Chelsea Handler has responded to being left out of GLAAD's Network Responsibility Index, and she's not happy. In the above video, you can check out the comedienne showing off her gay staffers and expressing her annoyance at being left out. Handler has always been a big supporter of the gay community, and was even Grand Marshal in this year's L.A. Pride Parade. Wonder why she was left out?

American Idol's Kara DioGuardi is Coming Back, Whether You Like it or Not!
Idol's fourth judge doesn't give a crap about what fans of the show think. She's still coming back!
Despite rumors floating around that she might not be returning to American Idol next season, Kara DioGuardi is returning for the upcoming ninth season of the show. I know there was a lot of controversy last season when Idol, in an obvious attempt to shake things up and prevent people from getting bored of the show, added in a fourth judge to the mix. There was pretty much a new rumor each day regarding fighting between the judges. You know, stuff like Paula Abdul was jealous of a new female judge stealing her limelight, Simon Cowell being mean to Kara, etc.
Now, I know many fans were quite hesitant to accept DioGuardi, and some still haven't. Regardless of how they think, she's back, and we'll just have to put up with even longer judge critiques. Hopefully they'll cut down a little on the judges comments this season so the show won't constantly go over time like it did last season. Sadly, I doubt this will happen.
