Check Out the Winners of the TripOut Gay Travel Awards! Rio, NYC, Paris... Ooh La La!

Rio1

Sweet! The Sugar Loaf, Rio de Janeiro

By Selena Watkins

The winners have been announced for the first ever TripOut Gay Travel Awards.

Voted on by the site's readers, TripOutGayTravel.com honored the best of the best around the world for their loyalty to the LGBT community.

The winners were announced this morning after about two months and over 100,000 votes. Did you vote?

The first winner is one we all know and love, the near and dear New York City for Best U.S. Destination.

The Big Apple beat out New Orleans, Provincetown, Portland, Oregon, Philadelphia and San Fran! Wow. New Yorkers, be proud.

The Best Global Destination winner is Rio de Janeiro. I've never been but I know it's all about the Carnival madness and sex, sex, sex. At least in my imagination it is.

Rio won over Sydney, Australia, a location that is forever close to my heart. I would travel down under more often if it weren't for the (ahem) flight cost.

Now let's get to the crazy stuff. The Best Gay Bar in the world is The Abbey in Los Angeles and the Best Annual Gay Destination event is not Sydney Mardi Gras, and it is not the Gay Pride in New York. It's Madrid Pride! You like?

Best Airline goes to American Airlines; I'm not sure if any other compares. Maybe only JetBlue for the TV's. Or Qantas, but then again... It's not so often, I make it Down Under.

The Best Hotel Chain winner were the stylish folks at W Hotels and the Best Ultimate Luxury Hotel or Resort is the Wynn in Las Vegas.

Some of the final winners were the Marais in Paris for the Sexiest Place on Earth and Curacao for Breakout Destination. I wish I could have input on these statements, but I guess I'll just have to look at the pictures and nod yes.

The final award went to Richard Gray of Richard Gray Consulting in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for his Achievement in Making the World Gayer. Next time you're planning a vacation to Fort Lauderdale, try calling Rich.

And keep traveling so that you can vote for next year's awards!!!
