"Precious" Hits Theaters on Friday! Watch the Trailer Here!
Looking forward to Mariah Carey's first serious movie role? Or better yet are you looking forward to her first good role? I sure am.
She appears in the new movie, Precious, which hits theaters on Friday.
Stars gathered yesterday in Hollywood for the American Film Institute's screening of Precious at AFI Fest 2009.Precious is based on the 1996 novel Push, by Sapphire.
I read the book years ago at a time in my life when urban romance novels with streaks of danger were top priority on my reading list.
Anyhow, this novel had neither romance nor street life, but it had drama and reality. The main character, Clareece Precious Jones, lives in Harlem with her mother who verbally and sexually abuses her and she has two children by her father. She is obese, she lives in poverty and she is illiterate at the age of 16.
That's drama.
I hope the movie will do justice to the book, because you know how that story goes. Kerplunk.
Can you name one movie based on a novel that was actually better than the novel? ...I can’t, but I have a feeling that Precious will be just as good as the book, if not better.
Gabourey Gabby Sidibe , makes her film debut in the title role and other names to mentions include Mo'Nique, and the sexy Lenny Kravtiz.
I'm not sure what Mr. Kravitz's role is but, he'll be great to look at in whatever he scene he is in.
Mo'Nique plays the mother of Precious. There's lots of buzz already about how this is Mo's breakthrough role. We'll see, but I'm guessing she can be one mean mother if she wants to be. And it'll be interesting to watch as we've never seen her outside of a comedic role.
Mariah Carey only has a small role as social worker but according to the Associated Press it is a milestone in her acting career. She said, "I mean I had one milestone that almost had me under the stone." Yeah, we know. Glitter.
